Wolves are very beautiful creatures. They use to
roam
the earth as free as the American Indians
did. Today
they are less able to roam free without
being killed. This beautiful creature
is becoming extinct as
they are being slaughtered. They are considered dangerous
to farms, with cattle, sheep, but this is rare.
Surely they aren't any more dangerous than a domestic
dog or even a human when they are desperate
for food
and water so they can survive.
Grey Wolves are also known as Timber Wolves where
Alaska,
Minnesota are known to host the largest
population of Grey Wolves.
They are also found throughout
Europe and North America.
When a male takes a mate,
they are as one till death.
They mate at the
end of winter, but only the Alpha
are allowed to
mate. The breeding female will chase all
other females
away and after a successful mating, only then were
they allowed to return. The female can have anywhere
from 3-13 pups.
The other females when allowed back
are allowed to help make
the den. Both parents raise
the pups. After they are 2 years
old, the pups
either leave their pack and form a new pack
with other lone wolves, or they stay in the pack
and resume lower position.
They live in packs and are
hightly family
orinated. The packs consist of the breeding pair,
the pups and
other young off spring. They make great
parents for their young
and give them the best survival
bringing up that a parent
can. They have fur that
varies in color from black fur when
born to greys
with colors of white, yellow and reds and
greys. They
shed their coats once a year. They may
grow to
be come a wolf of 95 pounds, and have
very
strong muscles.
Wolves communicate by being very vocal and by body
language.
They whine, whimper, snarl or growl when
danger comes by or
to warn off predators. They
have their calls to their family or
to the pack.
Each wolf has his or her own song.
The Wolves
scitentific name is Canis Lupis.
I have learned that they have ranks of importance.
Alpha Rain is the highest rank for male
and female leaders
Adult subordinates
Omega wolves
The lowest being the Lone Wolf.
The "Lone Wolf" is a wolf who has been rejected
by the
pack or when a young one wonders off
and doesn't find
his way back to his group.
The Grey Wolf can run the fastest and the longest
distance.
Wolves can travel as far as 500 miles
looking for food
of very large animals like the
Buffalo. No food is to big
for them to run
down. These beautiful creatures were once 30
different
species, but because they are being slaughtered,
there
are only 5 breeds left.
In 1972, the Dept of Defense ordered 277,502 parka
hoods trimmed with
wolf fur. Conservationists and
elected officials protested big time. The Dept of
Defense canceled the order.
Sinapir, named after the Ute word for wolves, is dedicated
to the
recovery of native carnivores in the Southern
Rocky Mountains, and the restoration
of the wild
habitat in which all species flourist.
Do you know that when a Shaman goes on a quest,
that often the wolf is seen in his vision? When
the animal
is seen, and running in a certain
direction, this tells the Shaman
how to lead his people.
He can also see what awaits his journey.
The wolf
is brother to his Indian friends.
A Special Pack
There is a special wolf pack
Voice of the Wolf it's named
of companionship we do not lack
for there is much to be gained.
The love and caring that we share
with every Sis and Brother
There is nothing that can compare
for our bond is like no other
With howls of joy we greet each morn
knowing way down deep inside
That each new day to us is born
a growing sense of pride
For we all know that each of us
will do our very best
To help each other, without fuss
and rise to every test
For within us is all, without a doubt
is a love that knows no end
For this is what we are about
a special group of friends!
