Steve Smith |
CAR |
There is no reason to think the Smith will slow down this season. Sure, they added Keyshawn Johnson on the other side, but that should help Smith because of his speed, as Johnson grabs the balls underneath. Smith may not be the #1 WR at the end of the season, but he should finish in the top 5. |
2 |
Terrell Owens |
DAL |
Despite all the
controversy, and despite the fact that T.O. is a cancer to an organization,
Owens is still a great WR. He takes
his side show to |
3 |
Torry Holt |
STL |
Martz is gone and
so is the “greatest show on Earth” offense in |
4 |
|
CIN |
Some people would like to see this guy higher in the rankings, and believe me, he does deserve to be higher. But I worry about the health of QB Carson Palmer. If Palmer misses the first few weeks of the season, I would not draft Johnson too high. But if Palmer plays week #1, feel free to move Johnson up these rankings |
5 |
Marvin Harrison |
|
I realize he will
be 34 by the start of the season, but this season, there will be more
pressure riding on the shoulders of QB Manning and his favorite target
Harrison, since the running game takes a blow with the loss of Edge. |
6 |
Larry Fitzgerald |
ARZ |
Fitzgerald, one day, will be the best WR in the game. That’s how I feel about this amazing talent. But will it happen this year? Fitzgerald had the ball thrown his way almost 170 times last season. That number will certainly go down with the addition of RB Edgerrin James. But, despite that fact, he could break into the top 5 this season. |
7 |
Anquan Boldin |
ARZ |
If Fitzgerald doesn’t crack the top 5, then his teammate will have a great chance. Boldin too, had the ball thrown his way 170+ times. Mainly because they had no running game last season, but as said above, that all changes this season. When Fitz gets drafted, Boldin won’t be far behind. |
8 |
Reggie Wayne |
|
It is time for |
9 |
Randy Moss |
OAK |
First let me say, I am not a Moss fan. He disappointed me last season as he completely fell apart in the second half of the season. You can blame the QB, the offense, the opposing team defense, or the injuries. However you choose to dissect it, Moss has the potential to be great every year, but last year left me sour. I think he can bounce back, but I won’t make him higher in these rankings. He at least deserves to be in the top 10 |
10 |
Chris Chambers |
MIA |
Logic suggests that since Chambers had a phenomenal statistical year with a below average QB last season, he should blow the roof off if he had a top notch QB. Enter, QB Daunte Culpepper and Chambers’ value goes up the charts. Just keep in mind that Culpepper is coming back from an injury. If Culpepper is struggling in camp, drop Chambers down a bit. |
11 |
Darrell Jackson |
SEA |
|
12 |
Roy Williams |
DET |
With Martz running
this offense, there should be no question why Williams is this high. Sure, the QB position is questionable, the
running game was a mess last season, and Williams’ WR’s teammates
have major issues. But Williams is
clearly the top threat of this team and expect Martz to use him much like he
did Holt in |
13 |
Javon Walker |
DEN |
Traded to |
14 |
Hines Ward |
PIT |
Rookie Santonio Holmes will one day be in this spot (if he can stay out of trouble). But for now, Ward is still the top WR on this team. He will grab a lot of catches, and he excels after the catch. As Holmes matures, look for QB Big Ben to connect with Ward often. |
15 |
Santana Moss |
WAS |
Moss was insane for most of last season. Until he started slowing down near the end of the season. Redskins added WR’s Randle-El and Lloyd to their receiving corps. They have a lot of talent at WR, but Moss is still the best of the bunch. |
16 |
Plaxico Burress |
NYG |
Burress is a big play guy, the top target on the Giants, but he can be very inconsistent. He has good leaping ability for the end zone catches, but he only had 2 TDs after week 7. |
17 |
Deion Branch |
NE |
He is definitely QB Brady’s go to guy this season with the departure of WR Givens. What Branch lacks in size, he gains with his speed. He won’t eclipse double digit TDs for the season, but he should rack up yards. |
18 |
Derrick Mason |
BAL |
Mason is reunited
with QB McNair, and the |
19 |
Donald Driver |
GB |
Driver is listed all over the place in magazine rankings. WR Walker is gone, QB Favre (for some) “should” be gone. Driver is the #1 WR again, but the question will be, will he be a #1 when QB Rogers comes on the field? |
20 |
Andre Johnson |
HOU |
Until I see that the
Texans OL improves, and QB Carr is protected to throw downfield, Johnson will
not be ranked higher. However, Johnson
is a nice sleeper pick this year, and with WR Moulds in a |
21 |
Eddie Kennison |
KC |
Despite the Larry Johnson show in KC, Kennison has been a decent WR for QB Trent Green. He is the deep threat for the Chiefs, but not necessarily the end zone threat, so draft accordingly. |
22 |
TJ Houshmandzadeh |
CIN |
This guy is your prototypical possession WR. My only concern is the health of QB Palmer. The longer he heals, the further Housh drops in these rankings |
23 |
Joey Galloway |
TB |
|
24 |
Rod Smith |
DEN |
If you still need a #2 WR, look here. Yes he is 36, but with WR Walker coming to town and grabbing the attention of the opposing secondaries, Plummer may look to his familiar WR often. |
25 |
Terry Glenn |
DAL |
Much like Rod Smith above, with T.O. coming to town and grabbing the spotlight. Bledsoe can utilize Glenn often, if T.O. doesn’t cry and writes a book about it later. “I was wide open!!” |
26 |
Koren Robinson |
MIN |
Robinson has the
potential to be the #1 WR in |
27 |
Reggie Brown |
PHI |
No more T.O. and this rookie showed some flashes of greatness last season. Can he handle the pressure of #1? This offense spreads the ball around too much, he is only #3 fantasy WR |
28 |
Donte Stallworth |
NO |
I am personally surprised that Stallworth is ranked this high. Everything I read on him is that he will be Brees’ favorite target. But is that a guarantee? Before going ga-ga over this, watch some preseason games before making him a selection. |
29 |
Joe Horn |
NO |
Horn still has enough in the tank to make a difference and be a #1 on any team. It’s still a wait and see approach on who Brees will target often. |
30 |
Michael Clayton |
TB |
He had an amazing season his rookie year, all to come crumbling down his sophomore season with a list of injuries. Clayton hopes to put that behind him, he has the potential to shine. |
31 |
Lee Evans |
BUF |
He is a #1 WR on a team where the QB situation is a mess. Last season when Losman started at QB, Evans performance suffered. Evans’ fans hope Holcomb is the starter. |
32 |
Muhsin Mohammed |
CHI |
In |
33 |
Laveranues Coles |
NYJ |
To continue the trend of teams with QB problems, here is another one. Coles can be a stud, if he gets a solid QB. |
34 |
Keyshawn Johnson |
CAR |
Finally they added someone to compliment WR Smith. Johnson will get his catches, and may even be an end zone threat, but he won’t steal the spotlight from Smith. |
35 |
Jerry Porter |
OAK |
I am high on Porter every year, then he somewhat disappoints me with his mediocre performance. He has all the tools to be a solid WR, but fails. The QB or the offense to blame? Well, both will be new this season, as is, my hope for his solid performance. |
36 |
Antonio Bryant |
SF |
This is another WR that has real good talent, but his attitude and his issues, brings him to a sub par level. If QB Alex Smith can get that “deer in the headlights” look off his face, there could be something special here. |
37 |
Matt Jones |
JAC |
With WR Jimmy Smith retired now, someone needs to take over. Many have Jones listed as a sleeper because of his abilities, but don’t jump the gun. There is another WR just as capable of grabbing QB Leftwich’s attention. He is listed below. |
38 |
Ernest Wilford |
JAC |
Wilford had some solid games last season, and he very well could slide into the #1 role with Smith’s retirement. But he will have to battle Matt Jones, and former top pick Reggie Williams. |
39 |
Drew Bennett |
TEN |
Do you remember 2 years ago when McNair was injured and QB Volek had to step in? Well Volek is now the QB, so take a look at Bennett’s stats from 2004 in this situation. 1,247 yards 11 TDs. Doubt he will duplicate it, but something to consider on draft day. |
40 |
Braylon Edwards |
CLE |
If this #1 pick can stay healthy, we may just see something special. The QB situation is a bit shaky now, but still someone to put on your radar on draft day. |
41 |
Eric Moulds |
HOU |
Traded to the Texans recently, becomes a solid compliment to WR Johnson. If Carr can only stay off his back and complete passes. |
42 |
Nate Burelson |
SEA |
Sleeper candidate
since WR Jurevicius left for |
43 |
Joe Jurevicius |
CLE |
Jurevicius will help young QB Frye with his sure hands. He will never be consistent enough to be a stud WR, but he could give you some solid performances. |
44 |
Kevin Curtis |
STL |
It is time for me to jump on the bandwagon. Curtis is a young, fast WR with good hands. I know they resigned WR Bruce, but Curtis should be the starter along side Holt. He is my sleeper pick. |
45 |
David Givens |
TEN |
I don’t know
what to expect from Givens in |
46 |
Keenan McCardell |
SD |
He is 36, in an offense where the QB is playing for the first time, and he is the 3rd choice behind RB Tomlinson and TE Gates. If you are desperate for a #4 WR, he will do. |
47 |
Issac Bruce |
STL |
I mentioned WR Curtis earlier, but in case Bruce is still listed as the starter he needs to be listed here. |
48 |
Mark Clayton |
BAL |
Clayton is a good, solid young WR, and now that he has a good QB, he may show his talents. Hope QB McNair remains healthy. |
49 |
Brandon Lloyd |
WAS |
Another good young
WR, out of San Fran and into |
50 |
Brandon Stokley |
|
Do you remember when QB Peyton had a monster year 2 years ago? Well, I predict Peyton will have that again this season with a questionable running game. Stokley’s stats that year – 1,077 yards 10 TDs. If you draft him as your #4, then God Bless you. |
51 |
Michael Jenkins |
ATL |
Yes, this is the
first WR from |
52 |
Amani Toomer |
NYG |
Still a solid player, I just wish QB Manning would use him more frequently. |
53 |
Samie Parker |
KC |
He wont be an end zone threat, but they have that in RB Johnson, TE Gonzo and occasionally WR Kennison. He has the potential to rack up yards with his quickness. |
54 |
Marty Booker |
MIA |
With a healthy Culpepper at the helm, Booker has the potential to be a good #4 on your fantasy team. |
55 |
Justin McCareins |
NYJ |
Needs a healthy QB to showcase his talents. This team will be behind a lot of games and forced to throw. Not a bad option, keep on your radar. |
56 |
Roddy White |
ATL |
These last 5 names will be WR’s I consider the best potential of the bunch to be considered sleepers. Keep on your radar and grab them in the final rounds. White was drafted high for a reason, now let’s see that reason. |
57 |
Troy Williamson |
MIN |
He won’t ever replace WR Randy Moss, but he has the talent to help forget him. |
58 |
Jabar Gaffney |
PHI |
Coming into a
better situation than in |
59 |
Santonio Holmes |
PIT |
He should be able to unseat WR Cedric Wilson for a starting position, but his off field issues may hold him back. It would be a wasted amazing talent. |
60 |
Andre Davis |
BUF |
Forget about the
Peerliss Price signing. If Holcomb is
the starter, these two connected often in |
