STARTING UP YOUR EQUIPMENT:
Ok, to start your PSX development you'll need
some basic things:
- A (modded) PSX to run your creations (I think
you should have it)
- An Action Replay cartridge with Caetla rom
replacing
- A comm-link ISA card to interface your PC to
the PSX
- A compiler or assembler to create your EXEs
- Some graphix tools to build and convert PSX's
.TIM format
- A brain ; )
All those things can be downloaded from the web
(& my site) except for the comm link and the Action Replay that
you can find on your local game-store.
CAETLA EXPLANATION:
Caetla is a rom replacement for the Action Replay
(and clones) to use with CommLink: both let you down/up load programs
and memory card saves from/to the PSX
You can find the Caetla rom replacement only
at
K-comm's site, since you
can use that rom only for DEVELOPMENT
and NOT for commercial use !!!
[click on the pink boxes that appear after the
K-comm main page is loaded then choose the pages regarding Caetla]
STEP BY STEP GUIDE TO BURN YOUR OWN EXEs TO RUN THEM ON THE PSX:
Once you've compiled/downloaded PSX EXEs you cannot
simply burn a CD with your demos or games on it:
-you must fix the EXE's size according to be
a multiple of 2048 bytes with EXEFIXUP.EXE
-you can now create a mode2 (cdrom XA) cd with
eg. Ez CD Pro from Adaptec:
remember to check the ISO restrictions
(8.3 filenames and 8 level deep directorys).
-include in the root (unless your proggy is named
PSX.EXE) a SYSTEM.CNF file stating which and
where your exe is on the
CD.
-when the iso file is created, license it with
HITLICE.EXE
or GRIDFIX.EXE to make it bootable by the
PSX (you still need a modchip tough).
-BURN your own iso.
