Sleepy-Eye Mod (8/2001)

Equipment

Directions ('94-'97 ONLY, go here for '93 cars)

  1. Take off the left kick panel which covers the left wall and fuse box.  There are two push / pull buttons that hold it on.
  2. Remove the Fuse Panel.  There is one bolt and one screw in front.  There is not much slack on the wires, but you can let it hang without a problem.
  3. Find and unplug the Headlight control module.  It is located on the back of the fuse box.  This is a black connector with 5 wires.
  4. Locate the Red wire with a blue stripe.
  5. With the slack you have on that one wire, cut it in the middle.
  6. Splice your new wires to this now broken wire.  (CAUTION!  This wire is HOT!  Meaning it has electricity and can be grounded out, shorting out a fuse, as I found out.)
  7. Wrap your wires where they connect to the stock wires with electrical tape.
  8. Twist the ends of your extension wires together and wrap them with electrical tape.  This will prevent you shorting out a fuse, as I did (if you do, it was the MOD labeled fuse in the panel under the hood).  Plus, it will let you push the wires through more simply.
  9. Wedge the fuse box and splice items back up into where the fuse box goes.
  10. Make sure the splice item are up as high as possible, otherwise it will be difficult to get the kick panel back on completely.
  11. Replace the kick panel.
  12. Figure out where you want to mount your button (hopefully you already know).
  13. Mount and wire your button.
  14. Turn on your lights.
  15. Push your button till the lights reach the desired height.
  16. Turn off your lights.
  17. Push and hold (unless you have an ON with your button) until the lights finish going up completely and then back down again.  I find that if I try to Sleepy-Eye them down, they seem to skip and drop down.  Therefore, I don't do it on the way down, I only let them go down in one smooth motion.
