The kakapo is the worlds heaviest and only flightless parrot. They can weight up to 3.5 kg, or 8 pounds, and can grow to be 60 cm long, which is about 2 feet. It does have wings, but can only use them to parachute from trees, and for balance and braking. It has an extrememly strong grip with its feet and beak, and can climb trees. The kakapo's body feathers are a moss-green color, with black bars on its back, and a yellow face. The face is owl shaped, and has what look like whiskers. The females of the species are smaller than males, and have duller coloring. The beak of the kakapo is pale blue. It's unique structure has adapted to finely grinding food. Because of this, its gizzard, an organ used to grind food in many birds, is very small.
