8. KATHARINE CAIRNS: Eighth child born to James Cairns and Elizabeth
Patterson.
Born 4 Jul 1824, Berwickshire, Scotland, died 28 Jun 1905. On the
24 Jan 1845, she married William Symington, born 26 Aug 1820, died
26 May 1893. (s/o Thomas Symington and Isabell Summers).
Both buried Lakeview Cemetery, Sarnia, Ont.
They had 6 children. Elizabeth, Thomas, Isabelle, Mary, Helen and
James.
Some records show her name as being
Catherine. She was named for
her sister Catherine who died in infancy.
William started out farming, but in
1879, he founded the Gala Cheese
Factory. He later bought the ones at Uttoxeter and Forest, Ont.,
and
operated all three up until the time of his death.
