This painting is based on the wedding of Lisa Seguin and Robert Lewis at
St Brigid's Church in Watervliet, New York. I lived for a brief period
in a farmhouse owned by Lisa's parents in Rensselaer County, New York.
After the wedding ceremony and greeting the couple after their marriage,
I took a series of photographs outside the church. I was interested in
the angles of the church architecture and the play of the sunlight on

Another in the St. Brigid's series, of St Brigid's church in Watervliet,
New York. Using my photographs as a starting point, I completed a series of
pencil drawings on paper before starting these paintings. Collection of

Baghdad Roofs. 14" x 17 1/2". Tempera and Collage on Wood Panel. 1991.
This is one of a series of "Baghdad Roof"
paintings which were done during the first few days of the Gulf War in Iraq.
I did not have a television when I lived in Greenwich Village, but I used to
listen to the reports on the radio in the evening, and made a series of
drawings and paintings in tempera, pastel, and collage.
