Family Branches

I have divided my family tree research into various branches  (datasets).  I've done this to help organize all the data by source.  This way, merging branches is easy.  Click on any of the branches below to get detailed genealogical information about the individuals in each branch.  If you would like to add a branch to the list, please send me as much of your family tree as possible.  The branches include:

  1. The Woodbridge, Ontario Branch - this is the principal branch in my research and includes all Di Carlantonio's I have been able to link back to me.  The goal is to merge as many branches into this branch as possible.
  2. Montorio al Vomano, Teramo Branch - these are Di Carlantonio's that have lived in Montorio but am not able to link back to my Woodbridge branch yet
  3. New Jersey, New York Branch - a branch of Di Carlantonio's in NJ.
  4. Pennsylvania Branch
  5. Washington DC/Maryland Branch
  6. Ohio Branch
  7. Florida Branch
  8. Pietracamela, Teramo Branch
  9. Nereto, Teramo Branch
  10. Bisenti Teramo Branch
  11. Miano, Teramo Branch
  12. Morro D'oro, Teramo Branch
  13. Rocca Santa Maria, Teramo Branch

Name Origin

The following text was researched by the Historical Research Center. While not providing any direct link to our family, it does provide some insight to the origin of the name. This should not be viewed as authoritative source, but merely a guide. That being said, we have been able to establish that a Mercerrio and Angelantonio Carlantonio, did indeed live in the town of Perano in the 19th century.

"The Italian family name Di Carlantonio is classified as being of patronymic origin. According to scholars the "oldest and most pervasive type of surname is that derived from a given name". Such family names may be derived from a parental first name or from the first name of the grandfather or indeed a more remote ancestor of the original bearer of the surname. With regard to the family name of Di Carlantonio, this name denotes a descendant from a man named Carlantonio. The latter is derived from a combination of the personal names Carlo and Antonio. The first name, Carlo, literally meaning "man" and which was Latinized as Carolus. Antonio, on the other hand, is derived from the Latin name Antonious, itself a derivative of the Greek word "anthos" meaning "flower". The name Anthony was made popular through the devotion to St. Anthony, an Egyption hermit who was born in 251. Variants of the surname Di Carlantonio include Carlantonio. References to this surname or to a variant include a record of a family bearing the name Carlantonio who were recorded in Civile, Perano, Chieti (Italy), in the nineteenth century. A member of this family was one Angelantonio Carlantonio, who was born in the above mentioned place, on the 12th April, 1857. She was daughter of Mercerrio Carlantonio and Escolastica Sabatino. Research of course is ongoing as it is quite likely that this name has been documented even earlier than the date indicated above as there are a number of Italian surnames which have been recorded from the eleventh century".
