To do a substitution problem you must have at least two equations and with an 'X" and a "Y" in both equations.  you have to get one of the equatons to where it equals X or Y.  then substitute in it for that variable in the other equation.  Here is an example:
3X+2Y=8   and   X=3Y+10
3(3Y+10)+2Y=8

9Y+30+2Y=8
11Y=-22
Y=-2

I  have the two equations and I substituted It in for the X.

I did the math and distributed the 3 o the number in the parentheses.  The rest is just simple math.
