Manningtree - Thursday 29th July

The starting destination for the team I was in my second year of mission, was Manningtree in North-East Essex. It was the first time a team had been sent away from Norfolk, but contacts had been set up for us.

Under the leadership of Dan Fisher, we (Rachael, Fay, Dawn, Gill and myself) arrived at Manningtree Methodist church where the leaders of the local churches prayed over us before we set on what turned out to be a long journey.

Our first destination was Bradfield (two miles away). We checked out the church and left after half an hour for Wix, another two miles. At Wix parish church, Daniel found a cup and some water. Those who were thirsty drank some, after which we signed the visitors book, and left for the Baptist Church. It was locked, and so we still had no-where to stay.

Early evening we left for our final destination of the day : Great Oakley. There was a rule that year where you had to report back to base at 6pm every day. We had not long arrived in Great Oakley when it was time to make our nightly phone call. Fay and Gill went to make it whilst the rest of us looked around the park.

In the park there were a few young people we learnt a lot about in a short space of time! After a while, Daniel got his Bible out. It wasn't long after this, and the singing of Christmas songs by the youth, that Roger, who we had to report to, arrived to take us to Dovercourt for the night.

We stayed at a centre for young people called 'The Rock'. First we were fed, washed up and then we took a stroll along the beach. The power in the waves was so loud I couldn't hear what the others were saying! We returned to 'The Rock' had a milkshake, and slept.
