These pictures were taken in Mount Maunganui on December 4, 2005.

We walked to the beach at Mount Maunganui from a friend's place nearby. It was a beautiful day. We got there at 2ish following a drive in from Hamilton about an hour and a half away, and we had a barbecue lunch before hitting the beach.
Here, you see the actual mountain. Maunga is the Maori word for mountain, so "Mount Maunganui" is a bit of a redundant name---it means "Mount Big Mountain" basically :) There is a trail that goes up the side of the mountain that is apparently an easy hike, but we were not able to make time for that this time around.
And the beach facing to the water side this time :) Summer has definitely arrived in New Zealand, but it still was cold to swim. I got my feet wet, but only one intrepid Canadian ventured all the way in.
