New Zealand was a beautiful country, and spending a year there was definitely
a memorable experience. Looking back over some of my pictures, I am reminded
that I never got to see the South Island, and it is apparently more
picturesque---better than Waihi?
Better than Karangahake?
Apparently so! I will have to go back to New Zealand one day and see the South
Island---and Australia!
What will I miss about New Zealand?
- The people. I made some wonderful friends, and I will miss them all
- The weather. Yes, it rains a lot. But...no snow!
- Chocolate fish. Yum!
- Biculturalism. I bought a Maori cd before I left, and it has some good
stuff!
- The accent. I like accents :)
- Television. No need for cable, and fewer commercials than in North
America.
- Tax built in to the price. Why don't we do this? It is so much easier.
- Lovatt's puzzle magazines, Aussie soap star/rugby player clues
notwithstanding :)
- NZ Woman's Day, the ultimate TV Guide, puzzle magazine and gossip
tabloid
What was I happy to come back to in Canada?
- The restaurants. New Zealand is not a nation of restaurateurs.
- The shopping. Not a nation of shoppers either :)
- Public transit. Subways! Buses that run past 6:30!
- Broadband internet. That is just starting to hit NZ now.
- Tim Hortons. Yeah, I know, stereotype, But they do not do bagels or
donuts in NZ.
- Clear skin. The Waikato was NOT good for my allergies at all.
