“Fine, that’s good that my princess is doing alright. How is she feeling?” as he placed the flower pot and some balloons on the table.
“Feeling tired, father, do you know how long I have to go through this? I’m tired and sick.”
“You're gonna win this battle. Just hold on, my princess. My princess is gonna win this battle and gonna have a good life. My princess can do it.” She nodded, “I will, father. I’ll do this for you and for my mother where ever she is right now. and for the 2 head ladies, who loves me.”
“That’s the spirit.”
~~~~~~~~~~~~~FLASHBACK~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
aka Mae...
~~~In reality~~~
she laugh, “Mae, you silly.”
~~~Typing~~~~
Dearest Mae,
I’ve received your email and I’m fine. So far no sign of it yet... I miss you too... too bad we couldn’t see each other for awhile, because I’m going to the city. My father said that if I go there... He’ll rent me a place to stay and find myself a work to work for awhile. I’m so happy...
So are you coming to the city or to your house here in the country... just wondering...
well bye
Ninda
aka nin...
~~~~~~~~~~~In reality.~~~~
She clicked on the send button and closed her laptop “Phon, are we there yet?” as she asked the driver.
“Almost there,”
She looked out the window. The last time she was here was when she was 8 years old. She lived in with her parents.. Until her father died... and she was taken to the orphan house. “Phon, can we go to the orphan’s house on Main street please.”
“Sure Khun nin.”
“Thanks,” as she rolled down the window to get some fresh air...She had been in the car for the last 4 hour. Except for when they stopped for gas and for refreshment. The only thing she did in the car was listen to her disc-man and play on her laptop. She tried to read, but today, her head isn’t on it. Her head is on something else.
“Anything wrong?”
“No, I just want to see how the place look like. It had been 14 years since I’ve been there.. Will mother Kana and Mother Dawn remember me?”
Phon laughed, “Don’t worry, They will.”
“Are you hungry?”
“Why?”
“Cause if you are, lets eat first and then we will go there,” said Nin
“Sure.”
So they both stopped at a nearby restaurant and ate there before they head to the orphan place.
Part Two
Nin looked around the place... it was still the same nothing much had changed. She looked at some of the kids and remember her life in the house. She walked up to a boy crying, and knelt down to his height, “Why are you crying?”
The boy looked at her, “My mommy left me here?” She pat the boy’s head, “Don’t cry,” she try not to cry herself, “She will return to you someday.”
“Will you go and let my mommy know I miss her?” She just nodded and hugged the boy, “Is Mother Dawn and Mother Kana in?”
“They are in the office.”
“Thank you.” she took out some candy from her purse, “Here take it.”
“Thank you miss.” said the boy and ran off.
Nin stood up and looked at the path to the office. The office where she used to go and asked when will her mother gonna come back for her. She walked slowly to the office. She stopped and knocked on the door.
“Come in.” yelled a voice. Nin opened the door and walked in, looking at both Mother Kana and Mother Dawn
“May I help you miss?” She shook her head. As she wipeed her tears.
“Miss?” said Mother Dawn looking at her.
“Mother Dawn, Mother Kana?” she said
“Who are you?” asked Mother Kana
“I’m Ninda?”
Both Mother Dawn and Mother Kana looked at her, “Nin, you came back to visit?” she nodded, “I miss this place,” they both went and hugged her, “Glad you came to visit... how are you feeling?”
“I’m fine Mother Dawn and Mother Kana. Not sick no more.”
“Thats good to hear that Nin is fine. What are you doing here in the city?”
“My father said that I can come and live here if I want and also he’ll rent me a place to stay and let me work here for awhile.”
“Really. Where are you gonna work?”
“But please sit down first,” said Mother Kana
“Thank you Mother Kana,” she sat across from them. “I was thinking of opening a small flower shop near the orphan house or something that will get the other orphan kids involved. What do you guys think?”
“That would be nice of you.”
“Mother Kana and Mother Dawn, I’m just doing this because I want to help the other orphan kids that still have hopes. Even if they hadn't awake from the dead once. They will again no matter what happen.”
“That’s a high goal. Can you achieve it?”
“Mother Dawn and Mother Kana, I will. even if it meants my life. it will be like bringing a new life to the orphan kids.”
“We will help you if you need help. Just ask.”
“I will,” replied nin. then got up, “I see this place hadn’t change at all. It's still the same from when I’m still here.”
“Yeah. We like it better this way. Do you?”
"Yes, I love it."
“See we save it for you.”
She laughed, “I have to go now. I have to call my father soon and let him know that I’m in the city and is save.”
“Ok. Come again,” they give her one last hug.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
He walked into his office, “Da, please bring me the filse for the last order.” he called his assistant.
“ka,”
Da came in and gave him the file, “It has last month and the month before that. anything else sir?”
“No, thank you.”
So the assistant left his office, he flipped through some stuff. “What?” as he lean back. Then his phone ring, “Hello, Yatchai speaking.”
“Hello Chai, it's me, Mimi.” said his girlfriend, walking around the living room, “I’m at your house right now.”
“Oh, I’m at work. I’ll come there soon.” said Yatchai. “Wait for me.”
“Ok. I love you.”
“Same here too.”
That afternoon, Chai walked out of his office and dropped some files at his assistant’s desk and walked down to his car.
While driving, and daydreaming about Mimi, he was drivng a little fast without notice that the light had turn red. When he looked up, it was a little late to brake and he hit the car in front of him.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
She nearly hit her head on the back of the driver’s sit. “What was that?”
“I don’t know, miss,” replied Phon.
“Go check it out,” she said to Phon. Phon got out of the car and went around to look at the back of the car. Yatchai came out and looked at the car that he had just hit. “Are you the owner of the car?” asked Yatchai
“No, sir. I’m just the driver. Who may you be?”
“I’m Yatchai. May I speak with the owner?”
“Sure.”
Nin had already roll down her window, “Who is it?” she asked without looking.
“Miss, he is the driver that hit the car,” said Phon. Nin turned to look at Yatchai. Yatchai was amazed by her beauty and was speechless.
“Who are you? What’s your name?” asked Nin. Yatchai snapped back to reality, “Um...I’m sorry. I hit your car.” Nin came out and took a look at her car.
“um... sorry. I really am.” said Yatchai. “I can pay the fees to fix your car.” She turned to look at him, “Who are you?”
“Yatchai... Who may you be?” she didn’t answered him, “Phon, lets go now. I don’t want to be late.”
“karp...”
“but...”
“It is alrigh, I don’t have time to talk now. I’ll let you go this time. its not a big dant, so be careful next time or you’ll be sorry,” said Nin to him. and walked to the car.
Part Three
As he drove home, he kept thinking of who that girl was. She looks really pretty, but who is she? the image was on his mind the whole ride home.
“chai.” said his girlfriend mimi as he entered the door. she got up and hugged him. “How are you doing?”
“fine. but i got in a car accident.”
his parents got up, “son, are you ok?”
“yeah, that girl is so nice. She let me go saying i should be careful next time.” he replied.
“that’s good. you should thanks her next time. And be careful next time too.” said his stepmother.
“I will” he replied.
‘That’s good son.” said his father.
“Chai, that’s good that you are alright.” said Mimi, “I don’t want to lose you.”
He hugged her, “Don’t worry. I’m not gonna be gone soon. Mimi, don’t be scared. I won’t”
“Promised?”
“yeah Promised.” answered Yachai.
Yatchai stay in his room, thinking of the girl. He doesn't even know her name nor where she was from. But doubted that she was not from here, but somewhere. “Will I ever see her again?” he asked himself. “It would be great just to see her and talk with her again.”
Then there was a knock, “who is it?” he yelled.
“Chai, it's me, mom.” yelled his step mother.
He got up and open the door, “come on in.”
she came in and closed the door, “Chai, your dad want to me to talk with you about you and mimi.”
“what about it?” asked Chai
“married. Your dad want you and mimi to get marry soon.” said his step mother
“I don’t know about that yet. I want to wait a little longer.” replied Chai. “Tell dad, not to worry. Wait for awhile.”
“alright. Your dad really want to see his son marry before he died or anything happens to him.”
“I know, mom, tell dad not to think too much, he will be seeing his daughter-in-law soon.” said chai as he hugged his step mother.
Nin look at the place, “not bad.”
“Miss people will really like it here, better than where the orphan’s place is.” said the seller.
Nin look at her, “But I like it there better than here.” she replied at her remarked.
The seller turn to look at her, “I’ll make this low for us.”
“I’ll pass.” she replied. “I’ll take the one near the orphan’s place.”
“But...” said the seller
Nin just walked away not caring what the seller had to say.
Phon was waiting for her by the door, “ready?”
“karp.” as he opened the door for her. And walked to the driver’s seat. “Where do you want to go now?”
“to the place. We should get cleaning and order flowers and stuff to open the shop soon before my next check up.” she replied.
The orphans kids were already over there, waiting for her. When they heard about her opening the flower shop there, everyone is excited and wanted to see it and help her out. She promised to everyone that they will have a chance to help her and that she is willing to hire anyone who wanted to work there with her and pay them good wages. A smile appeared on her face as she opened the door, “Hello everyone”
“Hi Ninda.” said all the orphans kids.
“How are you guys doing? Welcome.” as she opened the door to her new shop the following weeks after filling out paper work and all those stuff.
“Thank you.” as the kids walk in one by one.
Everyone knows what to do and start right away.
During lunch, she had Phon order in for them to eat.
Finally, after weeks of cleaning and ordering, the shop was ready to be open. She had hired about 10 kids to water and take care of the flowers as the other, she gave them each some flowers to sell on the streets and their business cards.
“Flowers for sell. Beautiful flowers.” yelled a kid.
Yatchai scrolled down his window, “hey kid, how much is it?”
The kid ran up to him, “5 baht each.”
“Who is the owner?” asked Yatchai, as he picked about a dozen out.
“Ninda. You can come over and visit her shop at this place.” handing him a business card. “All the flowers are really beautiful. buy some for everyone in the car.”
Yatchai looked at the kid, “a dozen is enough. It's for my girlfriend. How much is it?”
“60 baht. All together.”
Yatchai pulled out a 100 baht bill, “Keep the change.”
“Thank you sir.” as he was about to go, when Yatchai’s step mother scrolled down her window.
“Son.”
The boy turned back, “yes madam?”
“I would like to buy a dozen too.”
The boy ran with the bucket toward the woman.
As she picked out the lily of the valley, iris, carnation, and calla, it remained her of Ninda, her daughter. That she left in the orphan’s place 16 years ago. she doesn’t know what happened to her. Her daughter’s favorite kind of flowers are the iris and lily of the valley. “How much are all those?”
“You mean the whole bucket of flowers?”
“yeah.”
The boy counted the flowers. there were about 25 flowers left, “125 bahts.” he replied.
“I would like to buy them all.”
“that would be 125 baht madam.” said the boy.
She paid him and took the bucket of flowers
“you love those flowers huh!” said Yatchai.
“yes. They are really beautiful.” replied his step mother.
“I have to agree too, its really beautiful. I wonder who the owner is.”
“same here.”
“we can go check it out some other time.” as they drove home.
The boy ran to the store and toward the counter, “Nin.” he yelled
Nin set the flower she’s carrying “yeah?”
“I just sold all my flowers. for 300 bahts.”
Nin looked up at him, “did you cheat?”
“no ma’am”
“how did you sell it for 300 bahts?”
“will at first the guy bought it for 60 baht, but tip 40 baht and his mother bought the whole bucket of flowers for 125 and tip 75.”
Nin lean over the counter, “really.”
“karp.” replied the boy, as he hand the money to her.
She took the the 225bahts and give him 120 bahts, “It's your tips. Take it.”
“thank you,” as he took the money with a smile. “may I sell another bucket?”
“sure. Go ahead.” she smiled at the boy.
“Chai, these flowers are really beautiful, where did you buy them?” asked mimi as she took the flowers and smell it.
“I bought it on the street. My mom’s favorite flowers. She bought the hold bucket full of flowers.” replied Yatchai.
“Thank you so much. I love them.”
“you welcome. I know you will love them.” he smiled. as he hug her.
She hug him back, “when ever you are going to buy these flowers again, let me know. I want to buy some for myself too.”
“Same with me.” said his step mother, as she carry the vase full of lily of the valley, iris, carnation, and calla.
Yatchai laughed, “Ok, mom. I will”
Part Four
It had been 2 weeks since he bought the flowers from the kid. The kid also gave him the business card. He looked at the card, “Fine, today will be the day.” He called home and told his step mother and mimi that he is planning to go buy some flowers.
when they got in front of the shop, “mom, mimi here it is. the shop.”
She looked around the place. It looks like the place she had left her daughter 16 years ago. But she doesn’t know what to think.
“mom?” said Yatchai, “ready to go in?”
she nodded.
As they all walked in.
“I don’t know what to say.” said nin still spraying at the water lilies. “You are probably a lucky kid, Pat”
“P’Nin, the flowers that I picked are really pretty. I like them myself too.” said Pat, walking toward the counter.
Nin looked up, only to see them. “Welcome.” she greeted them, looking at her mother. the mother that left her 16 years ago in the orphan’s house. she still recognized her. She looked the same. As she try not to cry. “come on in and feel free to look around.”
Yatchai was surprised. It was the girl that let him go free after he hit her car. he smiled and looked around the place, “are you the owner?” looking at her.
She nodded.
“P’Nin, they are the one that bought the flowers from me.” said pat.
“them?” said nin She want to yell, she want to call her mother all sore of name, but she decide not to make a move yet.
“what’s your name?” asked Yatchai.
“Ninda.” she replied, looking at her mother. “And who could those be, Yatchai?”
“um, my girlfriend, mimi and my mother, Pinipa.” answered Yatchai.
“Nice to meet you all.” said Ninda, looking at her mother.
Pinipa was surprised by the name. It was what she called her daughter. But think, its not her, lots of people are named Ninda too. She smiled “nice to meet you too, Ninda.”
“P’Nin, I’m gonna get some flowers and go now alright.” said Pat.
“ka. Go ahead. Have fun.” said Nin “and be careful not to get in trouble, because I would really get mad.”
“Karp.” said Pat. As he head to the bucket.”
Ninda turned to look at them again, “What can I do to help you guys?”
“um... we want to buy some flowers to decorate our house.” said Pinipa.
“Feel free to look around and choose whatever one you like.” said Nin and went to answer the phone. “Hello.”
“Nin, just want to let you know that I sent your record to the nearest hospital for your next check up.” said her god father.
“Alright, Thanks, dad, I’ll let you know when I go in alright.”
“Ok, take care of yourself.”
“I will.” and hang up. And turned around, only to find, Yatchai, looking at her. “Can I help you?”
“Yeah, I was wondering, why didn’t you call the cops on me last time?” asked Yatchai.
“Because I have a meeting to go. I don’t have time for those. Besides, it's not that big of a damage. I already fix it. I believe I can handle it.” as she picked up a bouquet and spray it with water. “I know you should be in trouble, but I guess I can be nice to someone once in awhile. Until, I met the one that hurt me the most and then I will hurt them back or whatsoever.”
Yatchai looked at her, “So who is the one that hurt you the most?”
She looked up at him, her mother, her mother was also nearby, “The mother that left her daughter here promised to come back for her. That mother is the meanest mother ever on earth. She cares about nothing but herself and her fame and crap. That mother shouldn't exist in this world anymore"
A girl came in, “P’Nin, I agree with you. That mother should go to hell and never come back.”
Nin smiled, “Finish with what you are doing?”
“Ka.” replied the girl.
Back facing them, Pinipa was hurt by that remark. Would my own daughter think of me like that? Or would she not? Would she forgive me for what I did? Without thinking and looking, She hitted something and it dropped on the floor and make a loud noise.
“mom.” said Yatchai, as he turned around.
“Sorry. Kon Nin.” she said.
“I didn’t say anything.” replied Nin. “Its alright. I don’t mind.”
“I’ll pay for the damage?” said Pinipa.
“There is no damage.” said Nin, “So you don’t need to pay for it.”
“Thanks.” said Pinipa.
“No problem, So got what you want?” said Nin.
“So you can kick us out?” laugh Yatchai.
“No comment.” she replied.
“P’Nin, some people call in and say that they want some African Violet and Bromeliad, cause they want some to decorate their house for their guests.” said a boy walking toward the counter with the phone.
“Tell them, that we have both of them and more.” said Nin
“I’ll take one of the Bromeliad and that one, pointing to the Zygocactus.” said Yatchai.
Mimi turned to look at her, “What for?”
“To decorate my room. I guess and for mom to decorate the living room right, mom?” replied Yatchai
“yeah.” replied Pinipa.
That night, while Pinipa was outside, she remembered what Nin had said about mother that left their children in the orphan’s house. “Ninda, my daughter, where are you this minute, tell mom. Mom is very sorry that she left you there, not coming back. Is my daughter healthy or is she married and have kids. or what is my daughter up to? Will I see you again, Ninda. Please forgive me, the mother that left her daughter in the orphan house.” as she cried to herself. Looking at the lily of the valley and the iris, that she just bought today at the flower shop near the orphan’s house, wanted to died and turn back time, so she can go bring her daughter back.
Yatchai, walk outside, when he saw Pinipa looking at the flowers, not blinking, “mom.”
She wiped her tears and turned around, “yeah?”
“What’s wrong?”
“um...nothing, aren’t you tired?”
“no... I was thinking of what Nin had said at the flower shop today, that cause you to drop the tin flowerpot on the floor. That was a mean remark.”
She smiled, “Oh, that, I accidently bump it, Chai, don’t say that. I mean, maybe she’s right.” that include me too. I left my daughter there. she thought.
“I know, but it seems like she just want to say it in front of your face.”
“What do you mean?”
“I mean, mom, don’t get me wrong or anything, like she knows you and hates you.” know me and hates me...thought Pinipa... could she be my daughter? The same name as my daughter...no...it can’t be her. “Maybe, she wants a mother to hear it...” said Pinipa.
“I don’t know, What I know is that she seens a little mad and angry.”
Pinipa smiled and shook her head, “maybe she just want to be left alone.”
She walk out of the office,
~~~~~~~~~~Flashback~~~~~~~~~~
“Nin, no sign of your cancer. I’m glad that you are really going to be cure.”
“thanks doctor. I hope so too.”
“Remember, any kind of bruise or sign of it, come back to the hospital alright?”
“ka...” said Nin
~~~Present~~~~
she walked out of the hospital with a smile on her face. It had been long since she was on remission. “There is no way, I’m getting sick again.”
Part Five
She walked into the shop with a smile, “Mother dawn.”
“hi, Nin, what was the result?”
“I’m fine mother dawn. So far no sign of it yet.”
“that’s good. I have something to tell you.”
“go ahead?” as she set her purse down and went to pick up a Azalea to water it.
“Your mom came in today?”
She looked up from the plant. “What did she said?”
“She asked about you and wonder where you were?”
“With her husband or by herself?”
“Herself.”
“So...” said nin. “There is no point of telling her that I’m alive. Just make up some stuff about me. I don’t want her in my life no more. She’s the meanest mother ever alive.”
“Nin, she’s your mother?”
“My mother is dead. She could never be in my life again, after all these years of suffering and going through leukemia without comforting me.” said nin, watering the plant. “If she ever come again, by herself. Tell her that her daughter is dead. Don’t tell her that I’m her daughter.”
“Nin.” said mother dawn
“Mother dawn. Now I’m fighting for my life, I don’t think i want to deal with my mother trying to hide me from her so call family. I don’t want to be a third person. If my mom loves me, she would have told her husband that she had a daughter in the orphan’s house 16 years ago. She would have came back for her daughter and give her all the love she needed during her treatment.”
“Nin. I understand how you feel. But no matter what, she’s your mother. the mother that gave birth to you.”
“But that mother is dead, after she left her daughter in the orphan’s house 16 years ago, letting her suffered all by herself with no one, but a man, she called father or god father.” She put the plant on its original place, “The only one that loves me are you, mother kana, mae, and my god father. I don’t care about my mom. She hates me with all her heart that she just have to get rid of me.”
“don’t said that. a mother will love her child very much.”
“Not the mother that i know. The mother that love her daughter died 16 years ago.”
“Don’t say that Nin. She loves you very much... it's just it not time to tell them the truth that she had a daughter. One day, she’ll tell them the truth that you are her only daughter. Then nothing will come between mother and daughter.”
“That day, is the day that I leave the world behind and go on with my life in a new world, where i won’t have to suffer this much.”
“Nin, don’t say those word. You never know the future. Until that day. Don’t think too much. Alright.” said mother dawn.
“I’ll try.” was all that nin said.
“Hello, International trade company. How can I help you?”
“Is Yatchai in the building?”
“may I ask who this is?”
“Mimi, his girlfriend.”
“oh, sorry he is not. He said that he went to the flower shop by the orphan’s place to get his mother some green plants.”
“Oh thanks.”
Yatchai look at Nin’s every move.
Nin turned around and looked at him, “What are you staring at? Have a staring problem?”
“No, not at all, just looking how you are treating the plants i want to buy.”
nin stand up and look at him, “Ok, Yatchai, tell me which plant you want. I don’t have all day to serve you.”
Yatchai just laughed, “ok, i’ll just buy these one,” pointing at the Fern and the Jade plant.
“anything else?”
“So that you can kick me out?”
“yeah.” replied Nin.
“That’s not how you are suppose to treat your customer.”
“I don’t care.. if you don’t like it, go to a different one. I’m not stopping you go to different one.”
“ok...ok.” as he gave her a teasing smile. “You are mad at me huh and hate me right?” as he lean over the counter.
“maybe...and i guess that’s my problem.”
“Do you hate me? honestly?”
She gave him a look, “why?”
“cause it seen like you hate me really much for somewhat reason and you hate my mother huh?”
She looked away, “I don’t know.” She turned back to face him, “Anyways that will cause you 1528 bahts. Anything else you want?”
“no thank you. my mother will love these.”
“Good for her. I don’t care.”
“Why you say that?”
“nothing. Not that i hate her. or anything. Its just that...” she didn’t finish the sentence. She give him, his change. “thank you very much, come again.” as she walked to get another plant.
Yatchai followed her, “you didn’t tell me, why you say that?”
She sighed, “someday, you’ll understand what i meant. Until then... let just go with the flow.”
“why?”
“its hard to explain. someday, when a mother come for her sick daughter, it’ll be too late and... everyone will know what i mean.”
Yatchai stand there clueless of what she was saying...
“Chai.” said Mimi as she entered the house.
Yatchai look up from the counter, where he was sitting down. “Hi, Mimi. What brings you here this afternoon?”
She walked toward him, “where were you at lunch, I was gonna call and ask if you want to have lunch with me today. But you were not there.”
“Sorry.” he hand her the plant. “I bought you this from the flower shop near the orphan’s place, like it.”
“ah.. its so beautiful.” said Mimi, as she smells the plant. “Thank you, Chai, what kind of plant is it?”
“Fern.” replied Chai.
Pinipa walked in, “Wow, those plants are so beautiful.”
“Aunt, Chai bought me this Fern plant.” said Mimi
“Mom, I bought you this Jade Plant.” said Chai, handing her the plant.
“Thanks Chai.” said Pinipa.
Mae, knocked on the door of Nin’s room. She had just came back to Thailand and was visiting Nin. She slowly opened the door to her room.
Nin turned around, “Mae, come in.”
Mae closed the door, “What’s wrong. You seen worry of something. Tell me. I want to help you out.”
Nin went to sit down on her bed, “There is nothing you can do. Life it too tough, I only know what yesterday is not tomorrow, I only know that I have fight for my life for so long. I don’t know how long I’m gonna live. I don’t know if I’m gonna died today or tomorrow.”
Mae went and sat next to her, “Don’t said that. You are gonna win the next battle, you did that once and you’ll do that again.”
Nin looked down on her bed, “Mae (looking up at her) Life is full of surprised. I may not know what today will bring.”
“I know” took both her hand, “But don’t worry, they always said that good always beat bad. You’ll beat it.”
“I hope.” replied Nin. “Will you go to the shop with me tomorrow morning.”
“Yes, I would love it. Wanna see how your shop is so far.” replied Mae, hugging her friend. “Always remember that you can always count on me 24/7.”
Nin pulled away and nodded.
Mae, wiped her tears away. “Nin, don’t waste your tears on some non-important things.”
