PART THREE

LauraAnne and Jordan sat in the waiting room at the hospital. “So did you have a good day yesterday with Krista and the guys?” Jordan’s mom asked.
“Yeah, we had a lot of fun,” Jordan said as she remembered what JC had to do. Jordan sat in the seat and bounced her knee up and down. She used to bite her nails as a nervous habit, but when she started doing modeling stuff she knew that people would see her nails, so she broke herself of the habit. Now she just fidgeted and couldn’t sit still.
“Jordan, are you alright?” LauraAnne asked.
“I’m in the hospital mom. I’m just a little nervous that’s all.”
“It’ll be over with soon,” she said.
“We can only hope,” Jordan said back.
A lady with a clipboard stepped into the waiting room and said, “Miss Jordan Mitchell.” Jordan looked at her mom and took a deep breath. She stood up and walked over to the lady. “This way please,” the lady said as she and Jordan started to walk down the hall. “How are you today?” the lady asked.
“I’m good,” Jordan answered back as she hopped onto the examining table in the room.
“The doctor will be with you in a moment,” she said and then walked out and closed the door behind her.
Jordan leaned back on the table and her heart raised. She was afraid to find out why the doctor called her and needed to see her immediately. Her thoughts of JC and previous night were interrupted when Dr. Allen walked through the door.
“Hello Jordan,” he said as he set her folders on the table and then walked over to her.
“Dr. Allen,” she said and nodded her head.
“Well, I was reviewing your records and realized that you hadn‘t been in here in awhile and I needed to do another checkup. Make sure that things are still ok. I’m gonna run a few quick tests and then get you out of here.
“Alright,” she said really faintly. “Dr. Allen,” she paused, “am I ok?”
“You look fine. You haven’t noticed anything wrong have you?”
“No,” she said and shook her head.
“Well, we’ll just do these blood tests and we’ll know within a week whether you’re right on schedule, or if we need to do some more treatments.”
Jordan bit her lip and said, “Ok.”
“You can handle anything, if you just allow yourself to do it,” he said.
    “I know,” she said back.
The doctor opened his records to the front page and said, “AB negative.”
“Yeah,” she said back with a sigh. “As uncommon as they come.”

Jordan sat on her bed and painted her long fingernails. The color was a soft mauve with a tint of sparkle to it. She sucked on a lifesaver and hummed to the music that was on the radio. The phone rang and she glanced over at the phone and then very carefully picked it up.
    “Hello,” she said.
    “Hey girl, it’s me.”
“Oh hey Krista,” she said as she tilted her head to hold the phone so that she could finish painting her nails.
“What are you up to? I need to get my car, you think you could bring it over and then we could chill and I’ll bring you home later?” Krista asked.
“Yeah sure. I gotta finish my nails and then I’ll come on over.”
“Hey, bring your suit and we can lay out by the pool.”
“Alright,” Jordan said back and glanced in the bathroom at her swimsuit.
“Okay, I’ll see ya soon,” Krista said as she hung up the phone.
Jordan hung up the phone and then finished painting her nails. “It’s Gonna Be Me” came on the radio and Jordan slipped a small giggle and a smile. It was almost a surrealistic thought that she and JC Chasez of NSYNC were an item. She saw him as so much more than just a famous Pop Star. He was a guy with a personality to move mountains, and he could make her smile with the simplest of words.
About twenty minutes later Jordan rang Krista’s doorbell. Krista answered the door in her swimsuit and with a Popsicle in in her mouth. She let Jordan in and Jordan handed her the car keys. Krista told Jordan to go ahead and run up to her room and change and that she would meet her by the pool.
Five minutes Jordan laid down on the fold out chair by the pool. She had on the same suit that she wore when she went swimming with JC just a couple days earlier. She sprayed herself with the sun tanner and then turned her head towards Krista.
“So, how was the ride home with Justin?” she asked.
“Oh, it was good. He is such a great guy. We exchanged our numbers and promised to keep in touch. Thanks so much for letting me chill with y’all yesterday. So, how were things with JC?” Krista asked as she put her hand over her eyes to look at Jordan.
“They are good,” she smiled. “He is so amazing. We are gonna keep in touch and visit and all that good stuff. I think he wants us to try to work out a relationship.”
“Is that what you want?” Krista asked.
    “Well sure, why wouldn’t I?”
    “It might be kinda hard.”
“Yeah, well, we’ll figure something out. Besides, it isn’t like we are getting married,” she laughed.
    “Very true!” Krista laughed back.
Things were quite for a minute and then Jordan broke the silence. “I went to the doctor today,” she said in a soft voice.
Krista turned her head fast and said, “are things okay Jordan?”
    “I’ll know in a week.”
“Girl you have been fine for two years. Don’t you start worrying now,” she said to her.
Two years ago Jordan went to the doctor when she felt a small lump on her left breast. It was the start of a tumor, but she caught it early and had surgery. They removed all of the cancerous cells and put her on some medicine and she even did a couple treatments of chemo to make sure to kill everything within her breast.
“I know I know. Just a wake up call ya know?”
“I know, but hey. No worries. Things are just fine. Have you been feeling alright?”
“Yeah, I was a little light headed the other day and I’ve been overly tired, but I think that that is just cuz I was stressing over my big, first real shoot the end of next week.”
“What’s to stress over girl? You are gonna do great!”
“I hope so,” she stopped for a few minutes. “Will you go with me Kris?”
    “To Orlando for the shoot?”
“Yeah. I mean, we can visit the guys, and I’d like you to be there for my first REAL shoot.”
“Girl you know I would love to! Count me in,” she said.
“Thanks,” Jordan said back and then turned on her stomach so that she could tan her back.

The girls were out by the pool for almost two hours. Jordan was so nervous about her shoot that she wanted to make sure that her tan was nice and perfect. She even made sure to pull her hair up enough in a cap so that the sun didn’t bleach it out. She had just had her hair rehighlighted and she didn’t want it to fry in the sun.
After the girls sunbathed, they decided to go out to McDonald’s to get something to eat. “I’m so hungry,” Krista said as the pulled into the parking lot.
“I know how you feel girly,” Jordan said back.
They both got out of the car and walked up to the door. Krista opened the door for the both of them and the walked in. They got in line and ordered their meal. Krista and Jordan both order the same thing. The quarter-pounder with cheese, large fries, and a sprite. They took their meals and took their seats at a table in the back.
They had been sitting there for about five minutes when a girl about nine or ten came up to them. “Oh my gosh, you’re Krista Riley aren’t you?”
Krista smiled and said, “yes I am. What’s your name?”
“I’m Nicole.” She turned toward Jordan and said, “wow I know you too. Your that Jordan girl from the Calvin Klein commercial. ‘If Jordan wears it, so should you,’” she mocked the commercial.
Jordan was really surprised. It was the first time that anyone had ever really recognized her. “Yeah, that‘s me,” she said back and giggled a little.
“Can I have your signature?” the girl asked Krista.
v Krista was used to this stuff so she was fast to say yes. The girl grabbed a piece of paper from her purse and handed it to her. Krista took the paper and grabbed a pen out of her own purse and wrote -
Nicole, keep your head high. Best of luck to you. ~Krista M. Riley
Then the girl handed the paper to Jordan and asked her for one too. Jordan was even more surprised. Her first autograph request.
Nicole - Reach for the stars. Someday you’ll touch one. ~Jordan Elise Mitchell
She handed the paper back with a huge smile on her face. “Here ya go,” she said.
“Thanks,” the girl said and then took off running to show the paper to her mom.
“That’s the kind of thing that makes what we do so much fun,” Krista said to Jordan.
“Well that is the first autograph I’ve even been asked for.”
“Hey, at least now you know you have fans! Wait until two weeks from now when your picture is splattered all over the front of Seventeen Magazine.”
“Girl I am nervous as it is. Don’t make it worse for me,” she laughed.
“Jordan you are going to be so awesome. Everyone will know you. Besides, being with Chasez is gonna have all those teenieboppers knowing who you are,” Krista said.
“Gotta point. I guess I got to get used to it,” Jordan said and stuck a french fry in her mouth.
“Totally,” Krista laughed and took a sip of her soda.

About a week later Jordan found herself sitting in the waiting room at the hospital again. The doctor had the results of the test so he called and asked her to come in. She sat there bouncing her leg up and down again. Her mom was busy doing an interview somewhere so she wasn’t able to come with Jordan to the doctor’s.
“Miss Jordan Mitchell,” a lady said. “This way please,” she said when Jordan stood up and walked toward her. “Doing okay today?” the lady asked.
    “Uh huh,” Jordan said back.
“That’s good. Dr. Allen will be here momentarily,” she said and then walked out.
Jordan’s palms of her hands started to sweat and she chewed on her lip. The doctor walked in about five minutes later and sat down in the chair next to the table that Jordan was sitting on.
“Jordan,” he said and nodded his head as he opened her folder.
    “Hey,” she said back.
“Well, as I told you on the phone, we got the results of your blood work. It looks as if you are still doing okay from what I can tell. Your Iron count is a little off so I need you to take these vitamins,” he said and handed her a script. “If you start feeling bad I want you to call me right away.”
A wave of relief rushed over Jordan and she said, “okay. Thanks Dr. Allen.”
“Anytime. Don’t ware yourself out this weekend,” he said. “Your mom tells me that you got offered to shoot the cover of this month's new Seventeen.”
“Yeah, I leave tomorrow afternoon,” she said with a smile from ear to ear.
“Well you have fun,” he said and stood up and headed to the door. “I want to see you in three months,” he said.
“Ok. I’ll schedule that on my way out.”
“See you then,” he said and walked down the hall the opposite way that Jordan went.
Right after Jordan had had the surgery for her breast cancer she had to come to the doctor every three weeks for checkups. After doing that for six months and everything seemed okay, he back it up to every six weeks, and then every three months. This last time though she had missed the appointment and just figured that she was doing alright so she didn’t bother to reschedule. That is why Dr. Allen called her in the previous week. It had been six months since he had seen her last.
Jordan made her next appointment and wrote it down on her personal planner so that she would remember to go to it. She walked out of the waiting room and called her mom on the cell and told her that everything was alright. After she talked to her she called up Krista and told her that she was all good and wanted to go shopping.
On the way to Krista’s Jordan stopped and picked up the vitamins that the doctor told her she needed to take. She read the back and then popped one into her mouth. She took a swig of soda and then continued on her way to Krista’s.<[>     Jordan walked into her house after Krista dropped her off. She carried three Abercrombie and Fitch bags, and one bag from the Rave. Right when she set the bags down she heard the answering machine go off.
“Shit,” she said as she ran over to it. “Talk about barely missing a call.” She hit the button and listened to the message. ‘Hey this is Jordan and I am unable to take your call right now but if you leave me your name and a quick message after the beep, I will get back to you. Beep. Hehe... I bet you started talking! Ok, do your thang for real. *BEEP* Hey Jordan, this is JC. Really cute message you got goin’ on. Uhm, I was just calling to make sure that you were still coming in tomorrow afternoon. Call me back on my cell as soon as ya get in. Laters.’
Jordan picked up the phone and dialed the number that showed on her caller ID box.
    “Hello,” JC said.
    “Hey C, it’s me Jordan.”
“Jordan I just hung up with your machine. Where are you?”
“I’m here at home. I just walked in when the machine went off.”
    “Oh,” he said.
“And yes, I am still coming in tomorrow afternoon. Krista is going to come with me though.”
“Where do you have reservations for?” he asked.
“We are staying at the Four Seasons.”
“Okay that’s cool. Call me when you get in?”
“Is that a request, demand, or a question?” she teased.
“Uhm, it’s a plea baby. Please call me.”
Jordan laughed. “I’ll call you as soon as I get to my room.”
“I miss you,” he said out of nowhere.
Jordan’s face turned beat red and she said, “I miss you too JC. I’ll see you tomorrow.”
    “Goodnight,” he said.
“Goodnight,” she said back and then hung up the phone. She looked around the room and then said, “I’m beat. I’ve got a long weekend ahead of me. Off to bed it is.” With that she picked up her bags and headed to her room.
