Pre-writing for an interview is very important! You don't want to look like you don't know what you're doing, do you? You need to have your questions prepared ahead of time. Here is an idea to help. | ![]() |
Activity: Print off this worksheet, and cut each card out. Did you notice the words at the top of each card? They are Who? What? Where? When? Why? How?. When writing as a reporter, these questions are very important. You will need to think of at least one question in each category to ask the person you are interviewing. Write it in the appropriate card. Practice asking the question with a partner until you feel comfortable asking. Now you are ready for your interview. Have extra blank cards in case you think of another question during the interview and you need to take notes.
Ask the person you are interviewing your questions. Listen carefully when they answer. Write down what they say on each card. Use your extra blank cards if you need to. Thank the person you interviewed.
All of this was hard work wasn't it? And this was just the "pre-writing"!
The next step is the rough
