The Legend of the Lost Sabres Part III "C'mon, everybeast, before the vermin notice yer all gone!" I said to the crowd, then whispered to Wally, "Lissen matey, as I was freein' th'last slave a rat stirred from th'nearest fire. Yew guys keep goin, I'm gonna double back an check if'n anybeast is followin' us!" "Good idea, mate! I'll march 'em quick, a league er so, we'll hide in the forest an' wait fer you ta catch up. Whistle if'n yer bein' followed an' we'll ambush 'em." he whispered in reply. I cut into the woods, heading the opposite direction as the crowd of slaves, while Wally informed Fettle of the plan. Together they explained our strategy to the rest of the woodlanders. I stole back to the vermin camp, watching my every step so as not to tread on anything that might betray my presence. Just as I suspected, the rat had been awake and was now organizing a patrol of corsairs to recapture the slaves. "Come on buckoes! Them slaves'll have some explaining to do when we gets 'em back here! Sargon will reward you for hard work and he'll have to let it slide if a few of them return unable to walk!" he sniggered evilly, "Cut yourselves some switches mates, we don't wanna kill 'em do we? But if they're too wounded ta run away..." he finished with an evil smile. Amid hooting and hollering, the vermin gathered blunt weapons and cut themselves whippy branches to subdue the liberated slaves. The rat, who seemed to be in charge, led them along the path the escapees had taken. I darted ahead of them, still keeping to the side of the trail. When I judged the time to be right I stepped out into the middle of the path. I walked slowly along until I heard the sound of the vermin behind me. Glancing backwards, I saw them spread out among the trees whispering just loud enough for me to hear. "'S only one of 'em lads. Wait for my signal an' we'll jump 'im!" commanded the rat. Not sure exactly how far Wallace had taken the slaves, I kept going. The corsairs were getting closer so I sped up a bit, fervently hoping to catch sight of Wallace soon. Suddenly, behind me, the rat whistled, and as they broke cover and charged towards me, so did Wallace and the slaves. The plan foiled, I did the only thing I could, drew my sword and prepared to fight; for my life, and for those of the slaves. To be continued...... Mission 1 Done by Redback Squirrel Hey there now listin' to my good lads, Well as soon as I was recriuted at Salamandastron. I was sent out on my first mission. Well being armed with me bow and arrows I was a sacred at first then I realised that hey I can kill from the dunes and they don't know were I am, So, first sneaked into their camp. I dropped their first sentry with no problem. There goes the first rat, dirty sneaks, one of those dirty Marlfoxes was on sentry duty as well, but before he could sound the alarm I put an arrow between his shoulder blades. There goes one Marlfox. Now that there were no more sentries left, I hope, I sneaked further into camp. I saw that all the boodly jerks were out cold so I grabbed the first water rat I saw and slew with a thrust of his own blade. So far, so good or at least I thought. The Marlfoxes awoke. Hell's Gates! They sounded the alarm so I retreated to the dunes to lose the foxes. The dirty rats didn't stand a chance. I slew three before the first 5 got to me. That left two. So I tripped one as he got me low on the shoulder and killed second one with a close arrow shot. Then I picked up the fallen rats dirk and killed him with it as the next 10 came over the hill. I threw the dirk at a water rat and missed. Then I dropped a Marlfox and a water rat that was right in front of me as two Marlfoxes came from out of nowhere. So I ducked and rolled to the right, tripping one fox that fell into the other. I got up and grabbed the the first Marlfoxes axe and slew him and his friend as well. After that I retreated away to bandaged my first of many wounds that I would recieve during the night. The other 4 water rats ran away from the mountian with fright as the other 3 foxes came after me. But as my Grandpa Greypatch used to say "you can't fool a Marlfox, cause they are too smart, but make a mistake on purpose and you got them fooled." so I pretended to charge but as I came closer, I jumped over their heads turned shot with the two arrows that I had loaded. That left 6 Marlfoxes and another 10 water rats. The Marlfoxes that were left were the one that was left and plus five more. The water rats 4 plus 6 more. So I quicky slew the remaining Marlfox. As The other five came over the hill. One of the foxes shouted you scum bag that was my mate. So I counted my arrows left, 12 arrows oh no! As the Marlfoxes charged me I killed three of them as the other two came after me. I grabbed the a sword that a one Marlfox had and a dagger as well I threw them both. I killed the one Marlfox with the dagger. As The sword took a Marlfox through the side. So I finished him with an arrow. that left me with 9 arrows left and still 10 water rats left. So as the water rats charged me I knew I was out of luck. So I am aimed at the First five but before I could fire, The water rats fell with javielns in their cheastes. I quickly finshed off the rest. I knew I was safe because of that fathful call "Euliaaaaaaaaaaaa S death is on the wind." To That day I was forevery great full for the Long Partol. |
