The Rover Owners Association of Virginia held its third annual Spring Rallye. The Rallye was based out of Douthat State Park located in southwestern Virginia and the participants roamed a few select trails through the Blue Ridge Mountains.
The 'Highlander' drove down from Northern Virginia literally through blinding rain to arrive early in the evening on Friday. With the addition of a new wiper blade before the journey started, the 'Highlander' pushed thorugh with no problems. (Although the windows never fully got defogged throughout the journey.)
On the way down, I met up with a Defender 90 heading toward the Spring Rallye. The driver actually lives a few miles from me and he caught up to me about 50 miles South of the house. We convoyed togehgter for a large part of the journey until he stopped at Wintergreen Resort and I pushed on to the Campground. It was cool tracking down the highway behind a truck 20 years newer than my own.
The weather was picture perfect with temperatures in the low 70's and the skies a beautiful blue. We all stopped on top of Potts Montain and soaked in the views. You can see the 'Highlander' peeking through the trees on the trail.
We all met in a large meadow at the peak of the mountain for lunch. The fare varied from cold sandwiches to Spam on the hibachi.
