Re-opening Announcement 21st Oct 2001

 

People gathered at the Fitzroy high School site to hear the Minister for Education's announcement.

 

The crowd was happy.

 

 

Tracey Callander started the proceedings

 

Brian Sullivan, School Council President when the school was closed in 1992, talked about the 14 month occupation and what kept them going.  And his feelings at seeing the school re-opened.

 

Richard Wynne, local state member of parliament, described the latest attempts to get the school re-opened.

 

Lindsay Tanner, local federal member, talked about public education.

 

Mary Delahunty, Minister for Education, made the announcement.

 

Mary Delahunty handed keys to the school to Brian Sullivan, symbolizing the return of the school to the community.

 

David Brant, President of Community for Fitzroy High School thanked the Minister and Richard Wynne on behalf of the community.
