Subject: Well done!

In 1993 I slept over at Fitzroy High most Thursday nights as part of the occupation team, but then moved out of the area and then overseas for 3 years.
Now I'm back living in Falconer St and was absolutely delighted to hear that you'd kept fighting the good fight and that the school is likely to reopen. My neighbour Nick is 10 and he would be in the first Year 7 intake if the schedule I heard of is followed. I think you've done a fantastic job, though I know it's not over yet. I'll write a couple of letters about it as your website suggests.

Best wishes

Subject: Re-open Fitzroy High School

I support the re-opening of the Fitzroy High School and hope that my two daughters will be able to attend this school. My eldest daughter will start High School in 2004 and my younger daughter in 2007.
Both of my daughter's go to North Fitzroy Primary School and enjoy the strong community feeling and support that the school offers. This is apart from the high quality of teaching and leadership that North Fitzroy Primary School offers. My wish is for this level of education and community support to stay with my children up to and throughout their secondary education. I believe this can be done with the re-opening of the Fitzroy High School offering Years 7-12.
I am dissatisfied with the other State secondary schools in my general area as they are too large, many are not easy to get to on public transport and/or don't have any available positions. These concerns are only going to get worse, not better. I feel as though I am being pushed into considering private schools for my daughters. Why should I when there's a perfectly good local school available which has the support of many local residents, Steve Bracks and Mary Delahunty? My strong preference is to support the State school system.
I'd like to congratulate the people immediately involved in the fight to get our school back. Without their solidarity and perseverance we wouldn't have got this far.

Dear Ms Delahunty,

We write to thank you for your recent announcement on the future of the Fitzroy Secondary College site.

The creation of the review panel, the selection of its members, and the open way it was allowed to conduct itself was an insightful and refreshing decision.

Although our initial concern was to have the school re-opened for our children to attend, the review panel’s report opened our eyes to much wider possibilities for public education in our area.

The idea that local secondary colleges share resources and expertise with the new school is particularly exciting as we recognise the high quality and capabilities of these schools.

Indeed, we now see the re-opening of Fitzroy Secondary college as providing a strengthening of public education throughout the inner northern region, benefiting students of all schools throughout the region.

The commitment of our communities to make Fitzroy Secondary College a success is strong.

We implore you to ensure there is representation of our communities when seeking advice on implementation of the Review Panel’s proposals.

Thank you again for the leadership you have shown, and look forward to further announcements on the future of Fitzroy Secondary College.

yours sincerely,
