I awoke for the first time around 7 or 8 this morning. It was raining out and I was warm and toasty dry, so I decided to stay warm and toasty dry. Around noon, the rain abbaited. I packed away all the wet clothes I had hung out to "dry" and was on the road by 1:00 pm. The lady from Holland (I still don't know her name) left an hour earlier and I hoped to catch up to her. Fat chance! The hills continued, but they seemed to be just a little bit easier. There was a very long and gradual climb and then a nice long descent on the other side. I pulled into a tourist info center to about camping spots and get out of the rain for a bit. I biked a bit further and came upon Barachois Park. My plan was to stop at the park to eat and dry my clothes and carry on. I turned off the main highway into the park and down a hill. The hill continued down. Down down down. Down. Steeper and deeper. About 200 meters lower, I came flying around a corner and spotted a booth at the park entrance. They quickly lowered the rope barrier, expecting me to fly right through it, which I almost did. After descending that distance, I realized there was no way I was going to make Blue Ponds PP by nightfall, so I chose to camp at Barachois for the night. I had some extra time after setting up camp and drying my clothes, so I tackled the Mount Erin hiking trail. The view from the top is suppose to be incredible, but I couldn't tell - everything was shrouded in clouds. My knees hurt all the time now. My legs are like steel but my knees are mush. My objective for tomorrow: Cornerbrook by late noon and Deer Lake by late evening. Previous | Atlantic Home | Next
