| Gaia sat around in the meeting room in Hope Island. It seemed so empty without Linka, so...quiet...without Wheeler. And there was much more food in the fridge. "What are we going to do?" asked Gi. "Sit around and wait," said Ma-TI. "No. We have to do something!" said Gaia. "I need to know the path to Avionne!" ----- "Hello!" said Helenadia to a rather large bird with the body of a hawk and the neck of a crane. It was the size of a small horse. "K'kaw," it said back. Linka looked on in wonder. "I know, you're wondering how this could exist. Well, a long time ago, Gaia thought that these birds were too ugly for her planet. So she wiped the species out. Simple as that," Helenadia said with ice in her voice. Wheeler and Linka were silent as they got on the bird behind Helenadia and began their flight. ----- On Hope Island, a great bird flew by. Gaia looked out the window and gasped. "They were gone! I destroyed them! That @(#@*(%ed Kaw!" She started to call the Planeteers but stopped. What if they learned her secret...what if they learned that she, by deletely one species, had thrown off the balance of the earth forever? "Hey, isn't that Hope Island?" asked Wheeler. Helenadia couldn't hear him; the wind was in her ears. "Hey look!" she said. "I can see Isla de Saturnariata from here!" Part 13 |
