The Flight Of the Kaw
Part 2
By Fibbi
Gaia gathered the group around her. They were eager to hear the story of the Kaw.
"When Kaw and I were young, we were sisters. Kaw was younger than me. She know I was to inherit the earth...but she loved the birds. She made a lasting friendship with them and she loved them dearly."
Linka did not see what was wrong with this. In fact, Kaw sounded a lot like her.
"I wasn't always sure of her motives...until it became time for me to become the spirit of the earth. She had those birds under her control, and she wanted to become spirit of the earth. She was not content with anything else. As Queen of the Birds, as she called herself, she demanded control over the earth. We kept telling her that it was not about control...but she didn't listen."
"What did you do?" asked Linka. She was definitely interested.
"We banished her to Oblivion. There was nothing else we could do. But now that she's back we have to catch her and banish her again!"

Their search for Kaw led them to the city of Cleveland, Ohio. Linka and Wheeler were having a wonderful time there. They loved to explore all the shops and cafes. In the evening, Linka sometimes explored the city by herself.
She came across a nice little cafe, opened the door, and stepped inside. There were people reading newspapers, drinking coffee and chatting about trivial matters. The sun was going down outside. The light in the cafe was very dim.
Linka took a seat at a small table, ordered some water, and looked out the winidow. The sunset was beautiful, but it was getting dark fast. As she sipped her water, she relaxed and let her thoughts slide.
A dark figure sat down in the empty seat across from her. In the dim light, she couldn't tell who it was until she looked up. Startled, she realized that it was none other than the Kaw.
"Hi," said the Kaw ina casual tone. She couldn't have been much older than Linka.
The Kaw's beauty was striking. Her dark brown hair had streaks of black in it. She wore bright gold earrings and her eyes sparkled like dark jewels. She had a flight-y tone about her; she just looked like she could float away any moment.
"Sorry, I never got a chance to explain myself. I assume Gaia has given you a lecture on how evil I was, and what she did to me?" she said with a smile that was nothing less than beautiful.
        Linka could only nod.
"It was Gaia who was jealous. She had no friendships with any aspect of the earth. The earth didn't love her, and she didn't love it. Look, she let it get into such a terrible condition!" She pointed out the window. It was now totally black out, but lights lit up two giant smokestacks pumping chemicals into the air. Linka understood. There was something about this Kaw...something that made Linka identify with her...something that could perhaps make Linka loyal to her instead of Gaia?
