The Flight Of the Kaw
Part 6
By Fibbi
Wheeler set the flowers down on the steps and knocked on the big oak door that led to Linka's room. After realizing it was locked (Hmm, that's strange, she never locks her door after sunrise), he walked around the place looking for an open window.

He didn't find an open window, but he found a broken one. He was beginning to get very nervous. Picking up the bouquet of flowers he had gotten for Linka, he climbed through the window.

Feathers were everywhere. There was a lot of broken glass on the floor and on the bed. Only one word ran through Wheeler's mind as he stood there, flowers in hand, and stared at the mess....KAW.
That was when the birds came. Thousands of them, wings beating the air furiously, flew in a giant flock straight at him. They latched their talons into his jacket and carried him high in the air.

The next thing Wheeler remembered was waking in the Sapphire Hall to a stinging sensation on his back. He could feel bits of broken glass in his arms, back, and legs...he could also feel a cotten swab being brushed against his forehead. He tried to open his eyes, but they stung too badly. There was a sound of someone running away.

Sitting up and rubbing his head, he finally opened his eyes and looked around. Linka lay sleeping in the far corner.
"Linka...Linka....." He struggled to get up and walked over to her. She awakened.
"Oh...Wheeler..." Her eyes were full of tears. "I thought...I...I would never see you again."
The two, full of pain and emotion, fell asleep again without another word.
        And Helenadia began to sing.
When Helenadia sang, all the birds hung their heads in shame. Not even their songs could begin to compare with the melody she would create.
As Helenadia sang, all Wheeler's wounds began to heal. Helenadia picked up the ceramic bowl and walked over to them and continued to swab the cold, clean liquid against their foreheads. The glass fell out of their skin, the blood disappeared, and the bruises faded away.
Wheeler stirred in his sleep. Helenadia pounced away...the two were left alone to rest.

"She said that she would be here by now!" cried out Plunder in the restaurant.
"Calm down already! It's not every day you deal with a villain that can control the universe! Cut her some slack!" Blight replied.
As usual, but ,as often, unexpected, the glass shattered and the Kaw flew in.
        "You...were...saying?"
Plunder and Blight grinned like two children who just got caught stealing cookies.
        "Well, then. Hey waiter!"
        "Yes, madam?"
        "Got any birdseed?"
"Ummmmmm...I can get you a bowl of sunflower seeds from the salad bar..."
        "--Good."
"I'll have the fried endangered tiger."
        "And for you?"
"De-toxed tuna, sil voos plate," said Blight in her best French accent.
"I think it's 'S'il vous plait,'" whispered Plunder.
The Kaw tried to conceal her laughter.
