The Flight Of the Kaw
Part 9
By Fibbi
"First stop on the grand tour...the courtyard," said Helenadia.
The courtyard was beautiful place with a circular stone floor and stone benches arranged in a circle on the outside of it, and behind the benches were a ring of trees where many birds were chatting, squabbling, and singing, but mostly working on their nest. Beneath the trees, there were flowerbeds of hostas and daisies, alternated with daffodils and day-lilies. Hummingbirds flew in and out of the flowers and there were bees all around.
"This is where we hold most of our outdoor parties, and this is where the birds live," said the Kaw. Helenadia was standing beside her, half her height (as she was only nine years old). The sun shone in their hair, both of the same brown color, and their brown eyes glistened just the same way. Then, Kaw pushed a button and the inner part of the stone circle became a swimming pool.
        "Coooooooooooool," said Wheeler.
"That's one big birdbath," said Helenadia, "and you never told me you put in a swimming pool!"
"I just felt like it one day," said the Kaw.
They walked on until they came to a gate. Kaw opened the gate and they continued on a path through a garden until they came to the big castle-like building again. They opened the big French doors and were back at the Sapphire Hall.
"You're probably familiar with the Sapphire Hall, you spent some time here. This is where you'll be sleeping until your bedrooms are ready. The Sapphire hall is like our party center." The Kaw pushed another button, and tables, chairs, and a dance floor were quickly put into place by robotic arms that came out of the sapphire ceiling.
"The ceiling is retractable too," said Kaw, who pushed another button on the wall, and the ceiling opened up. letting in sparkilng sunlight.
They walked through another door. "This is our kitchen," said Helenadia. They walked up to a fat, old woman who was stirring a pot of birdseed on the stove.
"This is Marielle," said Kaw. "She's the cook." Then Kaw pointed to a young man who was putting away groceries. "That's Robby, he's her assistant."
They walked out of the steamy kitchen into a parlor...but the parlor was not clean like all the other rooms. There were birds sitting on the couch and pecking holes in it, and the big glass windows were broken. There were birds playing "Heart and Soul" on the piano and there were some painting a picture of a swan in the other corner of the room.
The Kaw looked on in disapproval.
