Many years were spent living and working in England - most of it spent in  Ilminster, Somerset, in the southwest, so there's a real affection for that part of the world.  Newfoundland has a strong British connection, being the closest of the Canadian provinces to the UK.   Nearly all decendents of Newfoundlanders can be traced back to England or Ireland.
