Procedure
- Select the stones you will use. Wash them
in soapy water and rinse in clear water. Wipe and dry with a rag.
- Determine which pieces you will
paint. Let the paint dry thoroughly before assembling the stones.
- Put glue on both surfaces, let them get
tacky, then press together. To maintain integrity of the stone element do
not use too many other materials. After all, this is stonecraft!
- Use “Exterior Crack Seal in Strips” to
hold your stones in place while the glue dries. (This is a low-stick playdough-like
substance that can be reused over and over.)
- After assembling, cover the painted and
unpainted surfaces with a clear water-base finish such as "Mod-Podge Gloss"
to give the figurine a shining surface and a protective coating.
- Place felt pads under the figurine for
leveling and protecting furniture tops.
Tips:
- You do not have
to paint your models, but I find that doing so makes the figurines more lively.
- If you have
developed a better or different way of creating your models, drop me a note. I'm always eager to improve my technique!
- For those
of you who are new at this unique craft, if you have questions, I'll be happy
to help you. Again, just drop me a note!
