Hockey Career

Renberg has a long, strong stride and excellent balance, but only average speed. Anticipation is the key that gives him a head start on the defense.

He drives to the net, and is strong enough to shrug off a lot of checks, or even shovel a one-handed shot or pass if one arm is tied up. He likes to come in on the off-wing, especially on the powerplay, and snap a strong shot off his back foot.

He sees the ice well and is always looking for a teammate he can hit with a pass, but Renberg finally got it into his head that the more shots you take, the likelier it is you'll score--or that someone else might put in your rebound.

Renberg's best shots are his quick-release wrists or snaps with little backswing. He is defensively aware and is a solid two-way forward who can be on the ice in almost any situation.

Renberg doesn't fight, but he is extremely strong, has a nasty streak and likes to hit hard. He won't be intimidated. Since he isn't a great skater, his adjustment to the smaller ice surfaces actually helped his game.
