About Salli's Stick Figure Theater

What is this?

Salli's Stick Figure Theater is not really a webcomic, it's an ongoing inside joke for the members of the Forest of Shadows that happens to take the form of a webcomic because we thought it would be fun. We do not take it very seriously. SFT updates whenever someone feels like making an episode. (Once in a while we pretend to have a schedule, but we never really mean it.) New episodes appear in the General Discussion forum of the Forest of Shadows message board, and then make their way onto this site eventually.

Forum regulars shouldn't have any trouble keeping up, but if you're a non-member or non-regular who would like to follow SFT (I suppose it's possible), contact me, Salli and I'll inform you of updates via email or ezboard private message. I could make an actual mailing list (probably on Yahoo), but it's not worth it if there isn't demand.

Salli's Stick Figure Theater thrives on reader feedback. I figure it is worth taking a little time out of my busy life it I can brighten someone's day or make one of my friends laugh. Although I enjoy it personally, there just isn't a point if others don't like it, too. You, the reader, are my inspiration and biggest motivation to continue! Therefore, if you like SFT, or a particular episode strikes you as funny or interesting, please do share.

The SFT Story

Salli's Stick Figure Theater was born in early Novemeber, 2001. I'd had the idea for a long time... making a little comic strip with stick figures from the Forest of Shadows, probably doing behind the scenes jokes. (We were very disorganized in those days, but I like to think we hid it fairly well.) The inspiration was probably the award Sarah made for our first art contest. I have no idea where the title came from—it was probably related to my enjoyment of alliteration.

I'm fairly certain I made the very first episode of SFT on a Friday afternoon, between class and my traditional Friday afternoon activities. My idea was to lead into the behind the scenes stuff I mentioned earlier, but from the beginning Stick Figure Salli just wouldn't cooperate. One thing led to another, and the "Takeover" storyline was suddenly underway. None of this was planned!

That weekend, our network connection went down and (because of course we couldn't stay away from the computer) Sarah got into the act. We have always found self-insertion or group of RL friends webcomics to be rather silly, and (because we had nothing else to do) we thought it would be great fun to fix up pages on the Forest of Shadows site to resemble a webcomic. We shared the first episode with our friends at the Forest of Shadows and promised a few more. (Because, well, they already existed.)

At this point, something suprising happened... they liked it! They wanted more! Startled, but much entertained and enjoying ourselves thoroughly, Sarah and I continued to make episodes. We haven't stopped since. For a while, there was actually a "schedule," which soon devolved into new episodes whenver the mood struck. And now, over a year later, there are over eighty individual episodes of SFT, and there's no end in sight.
