But First, A Note on References
All references made in the columns to support factual claims are current at the time of writing. I have made every effort to use sources that are not “disposable.” This is fairly straight forward for most background information (though, not all); however, it is not always so easy to find static web pages with current information that will exist in the future.
Given the nature of web based publishing, and the fact that many of the topics that I write about are up-to-the-minute current, it is sometimes difficult to guarantee that links to ongoing situations will still be valid in a week or a month, let alone a year.
A good example of this problem is with
yahoo.com’s
news services,
which are extremely reliable news feeds. The information is up to date, mostly unbiased, accurate and impartial – yet the web pages are often transitory.
The problem of web pages – and therefore, information in general – disappearing is examined at some length at
The Memory Hole (thememoryhole.org).
While the focus of this page is often information that is intentionally “lost,” it certainly provides intriguing insight into this phenomena of information loss during the information age.
