August 5: Sweet Codger

The fact that the Pittsburgh plane was filled with normal Americans, businessmen with wives and kids – let’s face it: yuppies – and not with the political science department of a typically left-wing university is the difference between a White House that’s still standing and a smoldering ruin on Pennsylvania Avenue." (Rob Long)

And Lileks

When I put aside the collections of newspapers and magazines about 9/11, I included a paper from 9/10, just for comparison purposes. Sometimes it feels like 9/10 again - the rote acceptance that something probably won’t happen today. That’s the only way you can live your life, of course. It’s always 9/10 until it’s 9/11.

But 9/11 means that you can never really have 9/10 again.

West Sacramento is getting all gentrified with the Bay Area folks who can no longer afford to live there. Therefore, they want to close the Port of Sacramento, too hideously industrial to suit them. One wonders, when the city is nothing but a bedroom community, how they will have any city revenue?

Codger bowling today. The cancer codger was sweet today. He called me "honey" again, which I thoroughly enjoy, coming from him. He had one mediocre game of 148 and then 199 and 192, so he raised his average to 159 (He's hoping to get to 160 before he stops bowling.) He was pretty happy about that, and it looked like he wanted to hug goodbye, but since I was sitting with my bowling bag and etc., it didn't work out too well.

The other codger was griping about the lanes again. He apparently never misses at Crestview. Rich bowled his average and I was doing real well till the third game, 144, 124, and, oops, 94. We won all four games, too.

Mr. Clinton seems to have attention deficit disorder: he suffers when he isn't getting enough attention.
