September 8: Comfortable in Church

A very important pillar of our church died last Tuesday so we've been watching the paper for the funeral date. Rich was worried it would get in the way of our bowling tomorrow. It turned out to be even worse. He had driven the dog out to look for softballs, and when he got back I went to greet him with the bad news.

"I know when Jackie's funeral is. It's not during bowling, it's worse..." He thought for a while, suggested a couple of other times, like maybe we'd somehow missed it. "No, it's tomorrow night." "Oh, !@#$%^&!!" Yes, not only does it entirely cover Monday Night Football, it's a Steelers game! Rich has terrible luck seeing his beloved Steelers.

Church went well, and afterwards we talked to our assistant pastor, the one who went to ConJose. I wanted to know what kind of SF he likes, and how he learned about the WorldCon. (Asimov's FOUNDATION and he's currently re-reading Lensman, (ObGoe!)) I also talked to our judge friend and told him where I am with the estate. It's the first time in a long time I've felt comfortable in church, like it's home. I'd like to have that feeling back.

I saw a Hallowe'en magazine in the grocery store! (The Hallowe'en stores were open before Labor Day.) This should be an ObGoe too, because now they're turning HIS holiday into Commerce Day.

I have two (two!) new pitchers appearing on the hardest-to-raise pitcher plant! We think the greenhouse is helping.

ObVince: Purdue.
