September 10: A Pleasant Surprise

*back over 50%. May I STAY there this time!

I'm one pound down, ditto. I'm still 9 pounds over last year. Nothing else has been all that good, either.

Today we went down to the Seybold exhibit in San Francisco. It's a LOT smaller than it has been in past years. One of the biggest exhibits (on a smaller floor) is the Mercedes. ("We're probably the only technology exhibit with dual cupholders.") Another big one was a 9/11 memorial, showing a lot of the posters. They had a big New York skyline (pre-9/11) panoramic picture. I liked a number of the posters:

(There are many more here.)

I was impressed with the picture quilts, made on an HP scanner. The family tree and ancestor wall hangings were especially interesting. There were a lot of art things there. A panoramic photographer was showing his beautiful pictures of the Golden Gate bridge and of Stonehenge. He sets his camera to only take a tiny tiny sliver of the picture, and has an rotating platform which moves and takes. So, where I would take 4 or 5 pictures (and match them up by hand) he has 200-300. This evens the light a lot better.

I fell for the color identifier. You put it on a color, press the button, and it tells you how to mix this shade. In both US and European standards. Also it gives the HTML code for the color. I have no use for it, but what a nifty tool!

I also fell for the Intuos2, too. Mark has one. How Bernadette or Roni would love these. We played with it for quite a while. The pen is pressure sensitive, which makes a huge difference.

There weren't that many giveaways or drawings, or things to look at. However, the day was rescued early on. We'd known that Monica wouldn't be there, and figured that Mark wouldn't be as he's not in sales or marketing, he's a programmer. Then Rich nudged me, and there, in the Adobe booth! We lurked behind him. He didn't even act surprised... "oh, hi" is what he said. We made plans to take him to lunch, to make up for not taking him to dinner last week.

This meant we had to hang around an hour or so more than the lame expo deserved, but it was worth it to have a nice lunch at the new Mel's. The jukebox swallowed my money and never played my songs, but we finally got some music, anyway. Mark was great company.

Rich got back home a little late for Sharing God's Bounty, but it was worth it.
