October 18: Sharp Things

North Korea cannot be allowed to develop a nuclear bomb. We have to be very firm about it. - Bill Clinton, "Meet the Press," Nov. 7, 1993. (via Andrew Sullivan, who has a lot of them.

One of Vince's friends has been rather aimless the last few years, but he is trying something new, sales. He called earlier this week to sell us Cutco. I warned him he wasn't going to sell us anything, but we could let him practice on us. (He's only been doing this a week.)

We haven't seen Mike since the Vincenik wedding, so it was nice to get caught up. He went through the whole spiel, and I decided I did want the shears, after all. (He didn't even need to cut up the penny with it!) What I like about them is they come apart for cleaning. The knives are really nice, with nice handles and great blades, but they're also very expensive. They're too pricy for someone who mostly cooks with kits these days, and who no longer bones her own chicken. I feel that I'm old enough to have some luxuries, and skinless boneless chicken is one of them.

Mike was here for a very pleasant couple of hours.
