editor's note:
I have a house! And although it is already full of all kinds of stuff, there are always things one needs for a house. I've been growing this list since May, so there's lots of new ideas, both big and small.
Fun items (our definitions
of "fun" might vary):
- alarm clock
- books! (classics, in nice
bindings, please :)
- garden reference books (now that I have my very own... weeds)
- CDs (I'm not picky, or not
very picky)
- videos and DVDs (my collection is
rather small, and I've watched them all several times)
in particular:
- VHS version of Star Trek V (the video in my box set that is supposed to be The Final Frontier is actually another copy of The Motion Picture :( )
- the extended edition of LofR the Two Towers (I know, the LofR fad has pretty much passed but I have both versions of the other two films)
- jewellery, particularly
earrings - the really
expensive stuff, with diamonds and rubies and coloured beads,
- pictures of family, etc.,
for a
rogues' gallery! (I'm just following the trend on this one)
- glass, lots of bits of
coloured glass (now that I have all my stained glass tools in Fred'icton)
- puzzles (I
particularly like 3-D puzzles, and am more likely to make time for
those than ordinary ones... 'course, the brats seem to like the 3-D puzzles too, and not in the same way I do...)
- cat collars, ones which the brats can't take off so easily (does that count as a fun thing?)
Practical items, or
reasonable facsimile of practical:- casserole
dishes
- sheets (flannelette would be
nice and warm, or those cotton knit things)
- assorted undergarments
(preferably funky socks, but anything that will keep me warm will be
graciously accepted)
- dock and/or dock-USB cable
for my iPod (which, like my PowerBook, also has a battery that just
doesn't last as long as it used to)
- mattress (I have no clue how old mine is)
- area rug for the guest room (and maybe something to put beside my bed too - floors can be cold!)
- window sills/shelves that fit nicely under windows (so I's can grow things inside, too)
- bike rack (not that it isn't lots of fun stuffing my backpack with groceries)
- push mower ('cuz the cord is just gonna make things difficult in my backyard)
- grill (not that I necessarily want to bbq... but that's just one of those things everyone should have in their backyard, no?)
- sewing machine (sewing curtains by hand isn't a lot of fun)
- front door with glass (to lighten up the "front porch")
- kiln shelves (still haven't made much pottery stuff, but when I do, shelves would make firing more economical
- microwave (and space in the kitchen to put it)
- bread box (do people still have bread boxes?)
Completely
impractical items... for those who have
won the lottery or who have special powers! - car (sometimes you just need motor-driven
wheels, particularly in Fred'icton, where there's a really nasty hill, and a river between me and downtown)
- kitchen renovation (that will magically give me a decent-sized kitchen)
- bathroom renovation (just 'cuz)
- sun room (sun is nice. helps with growing things inside)
- extension (it would help with the three preceding items)
- boyfriend
(but only because it's a traditional item: who needs a man when one has a house, and cats? ... unless he has
his own plane in which to fly both me and my cats home for Christmas)
- time to indulge my varied
creative projects (now that the kiln is in Fred'icton, I really should make use of it...)
- a puppy ('cuz three cats aren't nearly enough)
- and, of course, world peace
(although I have no idea how that might be accomplished... and the
world might be just a tad boring if a rash of peace broke out...)
