Zi's note:
Now back in the homeland for over a year, I have contentedly settled into something of a nesting phase. No, no children on the horizon, but just trying to make my own corner of the world suit my lifestyle and my dreams (now, that's a tall order!). Not that I intend to live in an apartment much longer, but while I'm here, it might as well be made my own... Es zinu, man kadreiz darzins bus...
N.B. Gift certificates to IKEA, Home Depot, Canadian Tire, Loblaws, Chapters are excellent alternatives to the physical items that follow.
editor's note:
A condo doesn't count as a home. It's a temporary living space, suitable for entry-level real estate acquisition. Nevertheless, there is some need for stuff.
Home decorating stuff:
- Frames for prints, pictures, and posters. I have
various things of all sizes that would look really pretty on my walls, but only in a nice frame. IKEA has a nice selection...
- Cannisters for flour, sugars, etc. Right now I'm
using empty frozen yoghurt containers and coffee cans.
Something that can hold a couple of kilograms of baking supplies and still look pretty out on a shelf would be great, especially if it's a matched set.
- Nice-looking filing cabinet for my office. I found one at Staples that's perfect: item #681950, cherry wood 4-drawer deluxe file cabinet... that should hold all of my school stuff!
- A hip-height bookshelf that runs the length of the wall in my living room, for those books and DVDs and VHSs I haven't found room for yet.
- Curtains and curtain rod for my living room, just to add some colour. I'm open to colour suggestions, though I was leaning towards burgundy.
Electronics:
- A garburetor. Seriously. I now live in a place
that doesn't allow for composting or have green bins,
so all of my food waste is going in the garbage, which makes me feel incredibly guilty. A garburetor would solve this issue quite nicely.
- (for those of you who are feeling rich) New
appliances to replace the ones that are maybe only
slightly younger than my brother and make doing laundry and washing dishes sound like planes taking off in my kitchen.
- Mounted lights for under my counters. I have a dream of an herb garden on the pass-through between my kitchen and the living room.
- A slow cooker. It doesn't have to be big; I'm only one person. But maybe I wouldn't be so lazy about balanced meals if I didn't have to worry about cooking them.
Odds and ends:
- New fixtures for my bathroom and kitchen. I'm partial to brushed nickel.
- Money for a GoodLife membership
- Tropical fish, plus a home for them and standard fish home furnishings
- New car mats. I've made holes in the originals which came with my beloved Matrix. I prefer interesting (read: fun) car mats to the run-of-the-mill ones. Ladybugs, pawprints, Tinkerbell, are all accepted!
Stuff a girl can still dream about:
- My mortgage all paid for
- Successful laser surgery, all paid for, with little to no side effects
- Ski trip to Austria or Switzerland for March Break
- Money to go VISIT Latvija this summer
- Peace on Earth
