"In The Woods"
For nearly half of my life, the woods have been my back yard playground. When I was younger, the day just wasn't a success unless I came home with sap on my clothes from climbing the trees. The summer wasn't complete without at least one case of poison ivy! "Indian Summer" was what we called the few weeks between the end of August to the first 2 weeks of September. That has to be my favorite time of year in my home state of Maryland. The leaves turn brilliant colors. The "smell of green" in the air and the temperature is perfect, absolutely perfect! It's not too hot or cold! It is the best time to take a drive in the country, or walk in the woods.
Whenever I am frustrated, or hurt, I run to the mountains and sing my heart out. I have been known to take my musical instrument of choice for the day up to the mountains and play. That "smell of green", again, is so soothing. Where else can you hear the birds sing so naturally, and the wind singing softly through the pines?
