I am such a geek. This doesn't come as a surprise to me or anyone who knows me, but what does surprise me is how unconscious my geekiness can be. What is it about my geekitude that seems as though it has suddenly reared its head, forcing me to acknowledge its many levels? I've realized that my car, my beautiful new car, has been unwittingly caught up in the depths of my geekosity. For it now has a theme, and that theme is outer space. I assure you, I was very unaware of what I was doing, but I suppose, considering the poor car is Saturn, it was inevitable. It started even before I leased it, with the blue moon air freshener bought from a car wash and now hanging from the rear view mirror. (That is to say, the air freshener is blue and shaped like a moon, not that it smells like a blue moon. Though maybe it does. I don't know, I've never smelled a blue moon.) Then it continued with the addition of the string of Mardi Gras beads that my neighbor brought back with her from New Orleans, to thank me for watching her cats while she was gone. They're purple and green, very heavy, with big alien heads on them. (The beads, not the cats. The cats have rather normal-sized cat heads.) I'm not really into alien heads, but they are very cool and I thought they'd look fun hanging from the clothing hook in the back seat. So there they hang, hitting the window almost every time I turn a corner, reminding me of their presence. (Still talking about the beads here. Though I'd imagine if I hung my neighbor's cats in the back, they'd be rather unhappy and would also remind me of their presence. As would my neighbor.) But the capper was this past weekend, when I finally attached my license plates to the Saturn. While the plates themselves are not geekish, the plate holder (which was taken from the Escort and was given to me by a friend many moons ago) certainly is. It reads "Sunday in the Holodeck with Data". It comes from the title of a Star Trek fanfic which is also a play on the fact that Brent Spiner appeared on Broadway in "Sunday in the Park with George" (my favorite musical of all time). Sci-fi geek. Star Trek geek. And musical theatre geek. All rolled into one dark green package. Truly geeky. Of almost epic proportions. Maybe I should just hang my faded Starfleet Security ID from the rear view mirror and find another "Vulcan Science Academy" window sticker, like the one I had on the Escort (I miss that sticker). And give the Saturn a sci-fi related name, like the Green Hornet or something. Then my car's theme will be complete. My poor, poor car. |

Take some of that knowledge you have picked up and processed over the past few
weeks and begin to spread it out to others, Carol. It is time to put your communication skills to work. You will find that your emotions are strongly tied to your actions today, and that things will take on a much lighter tone than they have the past couple of days. Take deep breaths and release your pent up tension.
