September 14 2000

Look at me, updating once a month. Who the hell do I think I am, Chris Naze?

(Not really, I don't have that kind of talent.)

********************

Things have been a little, well, nuts. Mainly at work. Co-worker S. resigned, her last day being this past Friday. I've been dealing with the reprecussions and it hasn't been easy. I can't blame her, and I don't. I know that she's going to be happier, knowing some of what she's had to deal with.

The politics in my area, never pleasant under the best of circumstances, are getting worse, and I'm trying to avoid being sucked in. Considering that it's all swirling around me, that's pretty difficult. I wish I could go into detail, but I think it's best not to, at least not yet. Suffice it to say that, because of the politics, I'm training someone to take over S.'s position, someone who doesn't know anything about the work. Don't get me wrong, P. is a perfectly nice, intelligent person whom I already knew, and I'm sure she'll learn everything eventually. But the fact that I wasn't even asked if I might be interested in taking over the position, which would result in a promotion and more money, after doing this work well for three years, well, that should tell you what I'm up aganist.

It's not just that the atmosphere in my office has gotten more tense. I'm really going to miss S.. We supported each other against the bullshit being flung our way, were confidants and were so glad that we could trust the other. Now I really don't have anyone there that I can fully trust.

As I told a friend yesterday, I can see the writing on the wall, and in ten feet high letters, it says, "Get the fuck out!"

JOURNALS I READ

CAST OF THOUSANDS

TWENTY FACTS

WHAT I'M READING

Just finished THE SECRET LIFE OF LASZLO, COUNT DRACULA - by Roderick Anscombe. Not bad, but I prefer my vamipre stories with actual vampires, not tormented serial killers.

WHAT'S IN MY CD PLAYER

SAVAGE GARDEN
- Savage Garden

she's taking her time making up the reasons
to justify all the hurt inside
guess she knows from the smiles and the look in their eyes
everyone's got a theory about the bitter one

they're saying
mama never loved her much
and, daddy never keeps in touch
that's why she shies away from human affection
but somewhere in a private place
she packs her bags for outer space
and now she's waiting for the right kind of pilot to come
and she'll say to him

i would fly to the moon and back if you'll be...
if you'll be my baby
got a ticket for a world where we belong
so would you be my baby?

she can't remember a time when she felt needed
if love was red then she was color blind
all her friends they've been tried for treason
and crimes that were never defined

she's saying
love is like a barren place,
and reaching out for human faith
is like a journey i just don't have a map for
so baby's gonna take a dive and
push the shift to overdrive
send a signal that she's hanging
all her hopes on the stars
what a pleasant dream

i would fly to the moon and back if you'll be...
if you'll be my baby
got a ticket for a world where we belong
so would you be my baby?
