Delta News
FT Lewis, WA
20 April 2004

Dear Friends and Family,

In my letter to you last week, I said there was much more to talk (brag) about. The soldiers of Delta Company continue to display professionalism in all they do. You should all be proud of them. I think a letter format will be difficult to continue so we will be working a “newsletter” format soon that will only have a corner for my comments. I can get pretty long winded when talking about my troops.

Since last weeks letter, we had three more troops recognized by the I Corps Commander, LTG Soriano. SSG Jose Valenzuela received the “Trainer / Maintainer” award for outstanding performance of duty involving our movement to FT Lewis from FT Leonard Wood. His role in making sure our vehicles were inspected and prepared for a 2200 mile road march directly resulted in no vehicle breakdowns and the safe arrival of all soldiers. SSG Valenzuela represented the 1st Military Police Brigade at the ceremony. SPC Brent Cartwright and SPC Ryan Lodder received I Corp coins from LTG Soriano for exceptional performance of duty while on patrol at FT Lewis main post. The Brigade Commander, COL Swengros personally nominated these two fine soldiers and called me to write the narrative describing their actions. Cartwright and Lodder were on patrol when they noticed someone removing items from a vehicle and looking suspicious. They stopped and began questioning the suspect and eventually determined he was stealing from the vehicle. They found illegal drugs in the suspect’s possession and upon further questioning, determined the source of the drugs. While questioning the suspected distributor of the drugs, they were able to obtain a confession from that person for distribution of illegal drugs. Both persons were apprehended.

These are just a few examples of the outstanding work being performed by your soldiers. The need for good help becomes very apparent here at FT Lewis when you look at the additional taskings we have received. SSG Johnny Jones and SSG Kenneth Johnson have been assigned to the Physical Security section at the Provost Marshall Office (PMO). They have received on the job training to conduct security inspections all over the FT Lewis installation as well as the Port of Tacoma, inspecting shipments of equipment coming back from Iraq and Afghanistan. They are on waiting lists to go to additional schools in Washington, D.C. and FT Leonard Wood. 1LT Nanneman has been tasked to the PMO and put in charge of developing FT Lewis emergency responses to various contingencies. 1LT Wilson has been tasked to the PMO as well and helps with the development of various Operation Orders for the PMO and the brigade. SFC Chiolerio has also been tasked to the brigade S-3 office and helps in the development of training for the subordinate battalions within the brigade. He spends most of his time coordinating for ranges, ammunition and other training resources with the various agencies at FT Lewis.

I need to wrap this up and get some other work completed. I thank all involved in supporting our troops both here at FT Lewis and everywhere else our soldiers have been called to duty.

Very Respectfully,

Lance A. McCoy
Delta Company Commander

It has been found out that Ed Musgrave and a few of the guys were treated like royalty at the Tokyo Steak House in Seattle recently, they dined as guests of the owner (who flew in to town, he also owns the restaurant in Overland Park) and enjoyed steaks and shrimp.

A group of the guys also helped Brent Vogt out with his housesitting job and enjoyed some home cooked barbeque. They were glad to have had a home cooked meal, instead of just the Chow Hall.

Chris Kindell has been in search of the big one, fish that is. Big Bird has been sighted around the areas fishing holes, relaxing at the edge. Good Luck Chris!

We just want to know how the new "motorcycle gang" at Ft. Lewis is doing?

Congratulations to those being honored at Ft. Lewis for their duties, keep up the good work.
