Delta News
FT Lewis, WA
24 June 2004

Hello all from FT Lewis. A lot has happened since my last letter. A quick rundown on what we are currently doing. First, the company has assembled a softball team for the post intramural league. We played in a pre-season tournament and lost. Not to worry, we played again in the brigade "Pig Bowl" and came in second place. Our regular season begins soon and I will try to keep you updated.

As I have said many times, we are tasked out at almost 100%. Beginning 28 June, most of 2nd Platoon will go to work at the Regional Corrections Facility here on post. They will work there hopefully for about 2 months giving the unit there a chance to work 8 hour shifts instead of the 12 hour shifts they've been working since last fall. Our soldiers know they were called up to provide support to an overworked MP Corps and I know they will step up to this newest challenge.

We said farewell to our MP Battalion Commander on 18 June and welcomed a new commander. LTC Tatum has been very supportive of our company and has made a real impact in the short time we have served under his command. He will be missed. LTC Switzer is our new Battalion Commander and we all look forward to serving with him.

We were paid a visit by the FORSCOM Command Sergeant Major recently and he took the opportunity to recognize some of our soldiers. SPC Aaron Wickham and SPC Alan Schulte, both from HHS 1/129 were awarded coins for their actions in responding to a vehicle accident. Their quick actions and dedication to duty directly contributed to the saving of one of the accident victims life.

Most of you have probably heard now that President Bush visited FT Lewis on the 17th and 18th of June. We supported the security for that visit with 26 soldiers. Our part of the mission was to provide security for the quarters the President stayed in while he was here. 1LT Shaun Wilson and 1LT Larry Nanneman both received Army Achievement Medals for their work in developing and supervising that mission.

All the soldiers of Delta Company continue to work hard and receive lots of praise. I almost forgot. We have received several care packages from various Family Readiness Groups back home. Speaking for the soldiers of Delta, thanks to all involved and for the hard work you put into those packages. Keep pushing on, keep praying for your soldiers and your country and remember, this time we are away will pass.

Very Respectfully,

CPT Lance A. McCoy
D Company Commander
