1st PLATOON
First Platoon has been pretty busy since their return from Yakima Training Center. While some of the soldiers where able to get some leave, the majority of the Platoon went through the advanced law enforcement certification which included PR 24 baton training and certification with OC pepper spray. After their training, it was back on the road starting with swing shift (1400hrs to 2200hrs) but now, along with part of Third platoon, we own the whole thing. The patrols have also changed to a 12 hour shift but the soldiers are doing a great job with it. SFC Mathews has been lucky to have his family up for a visit and so has 1LT Wheeler. The LT has been tasked to work at the Provost Marshals Office in the Plans & Operations section. SPC Smail, while working access control on FT. Lewis, pulled a vehicle over to the side for expired license. SGT Rhodes arrived to assist. The individuals in the car were acting nervous about the stop so the MP's asked to search the vehicle. They found over five pounds of marijuana and, as a result of heads up patrol work, they confiscated the drugs and the suspects where placed in custody.

2nd PLATOON
SPC Brian Link and his wife Beth are the proud parents of a healthy baby girl, Kyla Liberty Link. She was born on the14th of July at the Madigan Army Medical Center here on Ft. Lewis. She weighed 6lb 12 oz, and was 20 inches long. 2nd Platoon continues to work at the Regional Corrections Facility. The July and August heat have made for some uncomfortable days inside the facility which is not air conditioned. To add to the discomfort and stress, the soldiers will work 12 hour shifts for a week starting on the 15th of August. The mission at the RCF will be complete on the 26th of August. Everyone in the platoon is looking forward to leaving the confinement of the facility behind to go back to working as MPs on the roads of Ft. Lewis. The Platoon participated in marksmanship training and weapons qualification the last week of July. These training events created a challenge for the soldiers that they have become quite familiar with. They have to squeeze in the extra training between their shift work making for long days and a long week. The platoon met the challenge with 100 percent qualification by those who fired. Thirty three percent of the platoon shot expert (48 or more hits out of 50) with the M9 pistol. Several members of the platoon were administered the Army Physical Fitness Test on the 5th of August. Five out of the 6 soldiers in the platoon that took the test passed, showing major improvement over their previous scores. Those members of the platoon who have not yet received a 2 week leave period will have the opportunity to do so in September. About half of the platoon will be on leave between the 3rd and 16th and the other half will get leave between the 17th and the 30th. This is a much needed break for the soldiers, some of which have had no leave since they came on active duty in December of 2003.

3RD PLATOON
Third platoon MP's are doing outstanding things at Ft. Lewis. The last week of July we qualified with the M9 pistol. The Military Police Firearms Qualification went great. Third Platoon had six soldiers qualify expert with their service weapon. The platoon also qualified on a computerized M16 range last week. Everyone qualified, except SSG Johnson. He did not shoot because he is working with the physical security office here at Ft. Lewis. SPC Gordon turned 23 on 09Aug04 and SPC McGilbra will turn 23 on 13Aug04. 1LT Wilson's father will turn 60 on 14Aug04. She bought him a recliner when she was home on leave in July. Third Platoon had five soldiers train two days each on the BAC (Blood Alcohol Content) machine. They are now qualified to conduct the test to determine if suspected drunk drivers are under the influence of alcohol. Several members of the platoon went sky-diving on 31Jul04. SPC Fletcher is currently receiving flying lessons. SSG Corzette came from Chillicothe to visit some soldiers on 06Aug04. He rode his motorcycle all the way from Missouri to see his old Bravo Battery soldiers. That is about all the new items to include. It's basically normal duty for the soldier's. They have been working 12 hour shifts for a couple of weeks. We are stretched pretty thin, but I guess everyone is in the same boat on that issue.

Keep your powder dry, SFC Chiolerio, Mark S.

FROM THE COMMANDER
As you can see, the soldiers of Delta Company are very busy. Our soldiers continue to distinguish themselves daily and they are greatly appreciated by the soldiers and leaders here at FT Lewis. We are working 2 platoons on the road with 12 hour shifts so we can send another platoon to the RCF to give much needed relief there. The hard work will pay off as we will have an opportunity to send soldiers who have had no or very little time off, home for a breather. Come October, I anticipate a measure of normalcy to resume as we begin the downhill stretch of this deployment. Thanks go to our various Family Readiness Groups for their continued support and care packages and the families who support the troops here as we perform this very important mission.

Respectfully,

CPT Lance A. McCoy
D Company Commander
