Uffy Adams. One of six readings scheduled throughout the year, his play will be read by unaffiliated Yale artists parenting magazines on Monday, Nov. 4, at 8 p.m. in the lounge of the Yale Repertory Theatre, 1120 Chapel St. All of the readings in the series are free and open to the public; however, reservations are required due to space limitations. "New writing for the stage -- creatively juxtaposed with the classical repertory -- is central to Yale Rep's vision," says Stan Wojewodski Jr., dean of the School of Drama and artistic director of the Yale Rep, in announcing the new parenting classes series. "In concert with this effort, 'Yale Playwrights at the Rep' will provide promising young theater artists with the resources to explore the potential of their work."
Enn and dramaturg Melanie Deas got permission from the playwright to create a fresh adaptation of "The Pope and the Witch" for the Yale production. Their script blends components from two previous translations as well as the original Italian text.
To enhance the play's comic elements, Mr. Genn called in his former mentor -- Donald parenting classes Forrest, codirector of the California-based Dell'Arte Players -- to instruct the 12-member cast in the commedia dell'arte tradition, an "intensely physical theatrical experience" that is best exemplified in this culture by the antics of the Marx Brothers or Abbott and Costello, says parenting issues the School of Drama student. "The application of these physical techniques to the theatrical in recent years has been lax, to the theater's detriment," contends Mr. Genn.
