Chapter 2 : A Story

****The Next Day****
JC wakes up to hear a shower going off. After a bit a brunette comes out of the shower wearing black leather pants and a black leather sleeveless top and drying her hair. "Do I know you?" JC asks the girl.
"Am I that easy to forget? Angel remember?"
"Oh yeah, but you're a brunette."
"So? I change my hair color all the time. From brown to red…" She takes the towel and dries her hair some more, changing it to red. "…to blonde…" She does the same process turning it blonde. "… to brown again." She changes it back to brown.
"So that wasn't a dream."
"Nope. Now go take a shower. I'm going to go to the other room." She says leaving to the other room.
****
"Morning Everyone." Says Angel entering the middle room. The Joey and Chris say 'morning' not looking up from the Play Station in the hotel room and Lance says 'morning' not looking up from reading the paper at the table.
"Morning." Says Justin while eating his Apple Jacks. He looks up. "Angel?"
"Yeah. Thought I go with brown today." She says grabbing a bowl and pouring some cereal. "Where are the cats?"
"Don't know. I think sleeping by the balcony."
"Oh, okay. So what are we going to do today? I'm still fixing dinner tonight."
"Cool. Well how about Six Flags Magic Mountain? I mean we are in Los Angeles. Kinda weird. This is the City of Angels and you're an angel."
"Yeah. Weird. So how are your powers?"
"Gone. I can't even make Salem invisible anymore."
"I kind of figured as much. Since you never did the training, the slight powers that you did have are gone. But you should keep Salem. He's your friend. And don't worry about your powers. Just keep helping people, that is why angels have them. Just because your powers are gone, doesn't mean you should stop."
"Morning everyone. What is this about you having powers, Justin?" asks JC as him and Joey and Chris finally join Justin, Angel, and Lance, who is reading the paper at the table, sets the paper down.
"Well I did. That is how I had Salem with me for so long. I made him invisible. But now they are gone. I can't anymore so you guys are going to have to get used to having a cat around."
"Two. I thought I'd hang with you and that way Salem can keep Sabrina busy while I'm working."
"Working?" asks JC.
"Yeah. Being on-call is work. I kind of in a way get paid for it. I don't have a real job, being an on-call angel is enough."
"Oh. Well let's eat breakfast. What are we going to do today?" asks Joey.
"Well since Angel has never been to a park, I'd thought I'd take her and if you want, you guys can tag along. Then back here for supper." Says Justin. "Which Angel is going to fix, by the way."
"Really sounds fun, I'm game." Says Joey. The rest agree.
"Sounds fun to me too." They finish their breakfast and head out the door.
"Aren't we forgetting something?" says Justin.
"Oh yeah." Angel turns back to the room. "SABRINA, SALEM. Come on! We're heading out." Says Angel grabbing her sunglasses.
****
"So where are the cats again?" asks Lance.
"Wanted to go off on their own. I told them to meet us at the front gate at four. We have the rest of this time to do whatever and we're even, so no one gets left out." Says Angel. They ride some rides and Angel has a great time riding her first coaster. After a few rides, they stop for lunch then get some ice cream. They decide to sit on a bench and talk.
"So Angel, from last night. Want to tell the story. We have time." Says JC. The guys give him a weird look. "What? We were talking last night and she told me that there was a story. Can we hear it?"
"Sure. I'm not sure how much there is too it. As I told you there are three types of angels. They always start out human. When people die, they become ghosts. Once a ghost has proven him-self worthy, he is promoted to an angel. Once an angel has proven him-self worthy, he is promoted to guardian angel. That is how angels and guardian angels come about. They start as humans. A Calling Angel is chosen at birth and given slight powers to mark him. Another Calling Angel finds the new Calling Angel and trains him, but again, Calling angels start as humans. Justin was supposed to be a Calling Angel, but he became popular and the council decided he could do more by staying popular and a non-angel. That is why you don't have powers anymore Justin."
"Oh." Says Justin.
"So at one time you were human?" asks JC confused.
"Unfortunately, no. Back to the explanation. One thing about angels, with the exception of Calling, is that they can't have kids. Ghosts too. It's impossible. Calling Angels can have kids, but not with other Calling Angels. That is impossible."
"Why?" asks JC. Chris, Lance and Joey get bored by this point and start watching out for fans and start checking out girls. Justin and JC remain the only two talking to Angel.
"I don't really know; that is just how it is. Now where was I?… Oh yes. Back to the story. There is a legend that all angels know. It is about an angel that will be born of angel parents. This angel won't be special. Just that his powers will be stronger then the rest of the angels and do more good than any angel before."
"Isn't that impossible though?" asks Justin.
"Yeah, but legends are legends. This angel will be like the rest, not knowing feeling, but unlike the rest this angel will be born never knowing feeling. Since all angels are born human they know feeling, but once they become an angel, they lose feeling, but with the remembrance of it."
"But you said that you never knew feeling. This angel you're talking about is you." Says JC.
"Yeah. It's me."
"But you said there was a way you could feel." Says JC. Justin quits talking with JC and Angel and joins Lance, Joey, and Chris.
"There is a way. According to the legend, one pure kiss from my soul mate will let me feel. And I keep my powers and my Calling Angel status."
"Wow. You must be anxious to find him then."
"I am." She says with a grin.
"So, like the ice cream?"
"Don't know. I can't taste it. Like the texture though."
"I feel bad for you."
"Don't, one day I'll find him." She turns to the others. "Well let's go. I want to ride some more roller coasters."
"Alright then let's go!" shouts Chris and they head off.
****4 PM****
"Sabrina! Salem! Did y'all have fun?" asks Angel when they see the cats.
"Yes we did. We went over to this fish place. Some of the best fish I've ever eaten." Says Salem.
"And the owner was a retired Calling Angel which made it even better." Says Sabrina.
"That is great that you cats had fun. We did too. We took Angel to ride some of the roller coasters." Says Justin.
"I had as much fun as I could. Well come on. I'm making dinner tonight." Says Angel.
****
"Alright, since you guys let me hang with you, you can choose how you want me to cook dinner. I can do it by hand or by magic. And don't worry, I am a good cook without magic. But if you want it by hand, I'll need some one to help. So what will it be?"
"Can you cook? I love that stew you used to make and your pies are to die for." Says Justin.
"Everyone else agree?" asks Angel. They nod. "So who will help me?"
"I volunteer, I want to talk anyway." Says JC.
"Thanks Josh. Okay, let's get to work." Says Angel as they head into the kitchen in the hotel room and the others head over to the play station. She flips her wrist and all the stuff for the meal is in the kitchen. "Why don't you start cutting those vegetables over there by the sink and I'll start chopping the meat." They get to work. JC cutting vegetables and Angel cuts the meat and puts it in a pot. "So what did you want to talk about?"
"Nothing much. Just what kind of food you like, what you like to do. Stuff like that." She pours the meat into the pot and leans on the counter.
"Well that won't be much. I eat anything, even though I never really get hungry. It's the special angel thing. It all tastes the same to me. But for some reason I can cook a mean meal. Justin can vouch. As what I like to do, don't know. Never had the time. I've been an on-call angel for five years straight. Since I was seventeen and I've been training since I was born. I don't have time for anything else."
"Well that will have to change. You can ask for time off when we have time off. We can show you how to have fun. It'll be fun." JC says laughing.
"I wish it were that easy. The council never lets me have time off. I was surprised they let me have the 48 hours. If I ever find him, I might just retire. I've been training and on-call for nineteen years, since I was three. Or I might just take a long vacation, like six or seven years then get back to work. I deserve it."
"Only if you find him?"
"Yeah. I really can't see another reason."
"What about friends? We are your friends right? I know I like you and Justin's your best friend. I'm sure the guys like you."
"That is a good reason." He pours the vegetables into the pot and turns up the heat. "You know, I like talking to you. You're easy to talk to."
"Thanks, I think. I like talking to you too." That and I think I'm falling in love with an angel. Only a day, but still. He thinks to himself.
"So enough about me. How did you get the nickname of 'Dad' with this group? Justin sometimes refers to you as that when we were talking on the roller coasters earlier."
"The guys think I'm the responsible one. I guess I am. I'm kind of like their sitter. They act like ten-year-olds most of the time. I mean look, they are playing with a Playstation." He says pointing to the rest of the guys on the Playstation. She nods her head grinning.
"I see your point." She gets the piecrusts, rolls them out and puts one on the bottom of the pie pan. She takes the cherries and starts to clean them.
"So how are you such a good cook if Justin is right if you can't taste anything?"
"Justin would help me in the kitchen when we were smaller. He'd taste stuff and tell me if it was good. I just memorized the good recipes."
"Oh." Angel finishes the cherries, puts them in the crust, puts the crust on top, finishes the pie and puts it in the oven. In a few minutes, dinner is done and everyone is at the table waiting for Angel and JC to bring the food.
"So what did you fix?" Asks Joey.
"My specialty. Beef stew with Cherry Pie for dessert. Enjoy, I'll be on the balcony. The cats already have their dinner."
"You're not going to eat?" asks Chris.
"Nah. Don't really feel like it." She replies then heads outside to the balcony. The group finishes dinner and JC heads out to the balcony.
"Are you bored out here?" He asks leaning with he against the railing of the balcony.
"Not really."
"Something just occurred to me. I've never seen your real self or have I? Has Justin?"
"Yes he has and no you haven't. But I can show you. I hate my real self. I'm too pale." She backs away from the railing, closes her eyes, and concentrates. She starts glowing. Her hair turns white and her skin goes pale as well. The black leather she was wearing turns into a white gown (AN: like angels wear, you know that look like sheets.) and white wings open up from the back. Her eyes also change from her previous dark blue to a really light blue (almost white).
"Wings? Where's the halo?"
"Ha. Ha. very funny. Wings come with the territory. I only use the wings for ceremonial purposes. As for the halo, that is all hype. No truth to it." She says changing back to her previous form. She leans again on the railing and looks up to watch the stars. "I love watching the stars. So many of them. I mean heaven is great, but still I love to watch the stars."
"Me too. Are they as bright from heaven as they are from here?" He says smiling.
"Brighter." She says grinning. She looks at him and then looks back at the night sky. He stops looking at the sky and starts watching her with a grin on his face. He's watching me isn't he? She thinks to herself while watching the stars. I think I'm falling in love. He could be the one. I never have been able to talk to someone like I can with JC.
"Well, enough excitement. Want to help me clean up?" JC asks her.
"Sure." They go inside and get the dishes. He tosses her a towel when they finish with cleaning the dishes and start cleaning. He picks up the flour and as an idea comes to him, he grins. He takes a handful of the flour and creeps up behind Angel. He pours the flour from his hand on top of her head and she shrieks. "What was that for?"
"No reason. Just felt like it."
"Just felt like it? Well I just feel like doing this." She gets a handful of flour and pours it on him.
"FOOD FIGHT!" yells Chris as him and the rest of the guys join JC and Angel. They throw food around for a bit until they are all tired.
"Alright guys enough. Now who's cleaning this up?" They all point to her. "Fine." She flips her wrist and the kitchen is clean. "I'm going to get some air. Be back in a bit." She heads out of the room and down the hall.
"Guys, I'm going to follow to make sure she's alright. I think I know where she's headed." Says JC. He leaves to follow her and the other four guys silently follow.
