GROUPS
ARE SUBSETS OF LARGER SYSTEMS: Because
many groups are also a part of, or a subsets of, larger organizations, part of the
explanation for any group behavior may be extracted from an explanation of the larger
organization - it's values, norms, and culture.
Whereas groups of software engineers may exhibit
similar behaviors (attitudes and values) on the basis of their profession (behaviors often
formed during college and university experiences), one may also expect differences in
these groups' behaviors based on their larger corporate or organizational settings.
Differences in behaviors between software engineers at IBM versus those at Microsoft have
been well documented.
