May 2007

Was feeling more than a bit like that hare in Alice in Wonderland as March gave way to April showers. Have finally stopped jumping around and am able to update for May as it is May and I should not be as "raving mad" as I was in the preceding months.

My mum was with me at the 9:30 gig on March 14th. You seemed a bit quiet until "Behind the Sun." I was happy that you could see us toward the end of the song when, was it my imagination? You seemed to become quite peppy. Then you were on a roll and I loved how Mr. Whippy, Eslam himself, was there with all of you and how you all treated us to "Doghouse." That was a funky tune and quite celebratory in spirit.

Would have loved to have spent time before and after the show just to say "hiya!" again, but the week, for me, was draining, what with the two week assignment I was on in Washington, discussing all matters pertaining to politics, military, the economy and such. Thank you so very much for coming to Washington again and to the 9:30 Club. That is, always, the ultimate venue to hear you play and sing because it's pretty good acoustically and also great for feeling like you're part of an intimate setting with much energy travelling to and from the stage.

Then came April and though I had tickets for Coachella and your San Francisco gig I could not go to either of them due to work which will, for the time being at least, take precedence over enjoyable activities such as going to gigs, as you know. Coachella on April 22, 2003 was beautiful with you all playing as the sun was setting behind you...all golden orange and warm...the palm tree leaves rustling gently behind. To see blur with the desert backdrop was just breathtaking for me. So I missed not being able to go see you with Paul, Tony, Simon and the gang.

This month I finally got to see Mr. Oyamada aka "Cornelius," though for the first time live and he pretty much blasted my eardrums to infinity! Man, who knew? He did "Star Fruits Surf Rider" which put a smile on my face. I loved the collaboration you did with him and that sweet picture of the two of you together.

Been mostly busy, though, just like you. Please take good care of your health as you continue your preparations for Monkey: Journey to the West. Btw, I loved that series, too, when I was little and am still working on trying to get myself there at least for one show. We'll see...Will be updating on time upon return from Monaco. Will be at the hotel which shares the same initial as my name. :) Will lady luck smile on me this time? *wink*

Peace,
frances

P.S. Congratulations on your surprise performance at the Syd Barrett tribute concert. Love your voice on "The Word Song," but then, just love your voice in general. :D
