Edward John is supposed to have owned a couple of pubs in North Melbourne and a produce shop. I think it was a grocery shop. As on his marriage certificate he was a grocers assistant. He married Emily Jones who came from Portland, Vic. She divorced him in 1899 and ran off with their Groomsman back to Sydney. See more on Emily Jones. He then met girlfriend Millicent O’Connor but he did not marry her, they had a daughter Eilleen Rose born: 1899 and died : 1905 aged 6 at Hotham East, Victoria, Aust. A son George born: 1900 and also died that same year. Another son Edward Vernon, who married Mary Anderson in 1916 had children: Eilleen Millicent in 1917 at Brunswick, Vic, Aust & Edward Vernon in 1920, Vic.
Later in life he became a councilor at Ferntree Gully
shire 1920-1930. Edward apparently worked for Australia’s first Prime Minister
Sir Edmund Barton. There is a reference from Sir Edmund Barton for Edward
John with my Dad’s brother apparently.
Edward John Glossop was 74 when he died in June, 1935
at Chelsea, Victoria, Aust. Buried in Cheltenham Cemetry with his son Frederick
and Ada Daisy Luxford (Frederick’s wife) Plot
12’97 N.
Frederick John married Ada Daisy Luxford
22nd Mar, 1911. They are my great grandparents. My dad tells me that Frederick
was an eccentric old man who cut out a bedroom in his house to make way
for a garage. He had a concrete floor in the hall way as well. I don't
have much more on him and Ada until I see other relatives who can help
me out with him. Frederick was 71 when he died in 1960 at Bon beach, Victoria,
Australia.
