Description: Basic FAQ

Question and Answer

Question: What is Automatic Rate Selection (ARS) and what is the benefit for the customer?

Answer: Automatic Rate Selection (ARS) is a function of the XI-300 that switches the speed from 11 Mbps to 2 Mbps when the quality of the link cannot sustain high speed in the larger distances. When the user comes closer to the wireless unit, the quality of the link improves and the radio automatically switches back to 11 Mbps. The benefit for the customer is that they will remain connected to the network resources (although at a data rate) when they move further away from the wireless unit. Another benefit is that the user can roam between the 11Mb and 2Mb Access Point, if the customers have 2Mb Access Point, they still can use XI-300 to connect Access Point and share the network resource.
