The Fun & Frolic Square Dance Club was one of the
first square dance clubs in Jacksonville. It was established in
1956 as a "Mainstream" club, under the direction of Jack Griffith.
Several of the club members volunteered to help the City of Jacksonville
to finish building a facility, which they could use to dance in.
This building today is known as the Woodstock Recreation Center.
They have participated in Square Dance promotions at the Greater
Jacksonville Fair, a live broadcast from the "Today in
Jacksonville", and a host of other promotional demonstrations.
March ,1981, they celebrated their Silver Anniversary.
In 1983, Art Wilson took over the Fun & Frolic square Dance Club and transformed it into the present day A1 and A2 club. Today the club still maintains its open and friendly attitude where all A1 and A2 square dancers are WELCOME. We are now dancing for one hour on Wednesday night from 6:30 to 7:30. We presently dance under Jim Cosman who has a plus club that dances after us. Some of us stay to dance with the Fox Plus Square Dance Club. |
