Funky Troll's Trollinger Grapes

See Graphic.Trollinger

This very old red variety probably originated in, and derives its name from, Tirol, where it is known as Schiava (Italy) and Vernatsch (Austria). A large yielder that ripens very late, it produces fragrant, fruity, light wines with a pronounced acidity. Once found throughout German wine country (primarily as a table grape), today it is planted almost exclusively in Württemberg, where it is the quaffing wine of choice

Trollinger (Groß Vernatsch) WÜRTTEMBERGER TROLLINGER

The Trollinger grape is very much a Württemberg specialty. It could be considered
the "National Grape" of Württemberg, since it is grown nowhere else in Germany.

Trollinger wines are light ruby to light red in color, have a fruity, fresh bouquet
and have immense character.

They are light, very appetizing and make a great accompaniment to a variety of foods.

Trollinger (Groß Vernatsch) KERNER

This white grape is unusual in that it has as one of it's parents the red grape Trollinger, the other being Rhine Riesling. The cross was produced at Weinsberg in Germany in the early 1960's and registered there in 1969 as a cultivar. Kerner prefers cooler regions. It's bunches are medium to big, and very compact, which can lead to problems of rot. This is exacerbated by the deep shade provided by the dense foliage of this vigorous cultivar. There are about 364,000 Kerner vines planted in South African vineyards, approximately 0,13% of the total area.
