Ring! Ring!
"Jack! Pick it up! If it's for me, say I'm in the library or something."
Jack obeyed his father and answered the phone.
"Hello?"
"Mawning. Is ya fatha home?"
"Huh?"
"Do yous understend meeh?"
"Not in the accent you're speaking in."
"Ok. Let meeh make it clearer. Is...your...father...home?"
"Yeah... I mean no. He's at the library."
"Oh. Well tell him tat he can haf the vacation at mah tawn."
"Okay...bye."
"Bi."
"You mean bye?"
"Yeah, yeah. Wutever."
Jack hanged up and came tear-eyed to his father.
"You said we were going to Disneyland this summer!" Jack sputtered out. "I don't wanna go to grandpa's house! It's gonna be boring there and it'll stink and bugs will come out and eat me up!"
Jack's father looked at his son with a surprised look. "I thought you would enjoy being at grandpa's this summer. I'm sorry, but the place you expected to go made their prices 50 bucks more expensive. Your mother and I came up with this idea."
He continued. "She doesn't feel well and if you went to Florida, we'd all have to move. Please understand." Jack's father made a small smile. Jack had to force a smile but in a few seconds, he sobbed intensely. "But you promised?" he had wanted to say, but he keep his mouth shut. Jack ran out the room and crashed into his mother.
Jack's mother made a small moaning sound but Jack didn't really care. He had wanted to go to Disneyland, someone had promised him that he could go, and that someone had broken it.
Jack went to sleep, crying his eyes out. He had sleep peacefully and silently.
In the middle of the night there was a small incident. Jack's parents had gone out to the movies together.
On the way there, Jack's father had stopped for a small bathroom break and told his wife to stay in the car. Five minutes later, he came back and saw that gangs that had broken inside his car had attacked Jack's mother. By the time she was brought to the hospital, it was too late.
Jack woke up the next morning. The time on his digital clock was flashing 12:00, 12:00, 12:00. Jack was going to set up the time last night but he was too mad at his parents to do it. He went in the kitchen and saw someone.
It was his old babysitter. She had a small frown on her face. "You just woke up? It's past 9 AM," she said in a singly voice. "Don't worry, you aren't in trouble...It's just that your mother...had...a little accident last night." Jack couldn't believe what his babysitter just said. He just stood there with a dumbfounded look on his face.
At Jack's mother's funeral, Jack secretly made a promise.

"For the vacation to Grandpa's,
I will spend my time in the forest
Just as my mother would have liked it.
I won't complain a bit.
I'll just?enjoy and?relax.
Smelling the flowers?
And being nice at school
Whatever that is
In September..."
